| AN ACT concerning transportation.
|

| Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
| 3 |
| represented in the General Assembly:
|

| Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by adding |
| 5 |
| Section 3-684 as follows: |
| 6 |
| (625 ILCS 5/3-684 new)
|
| 7 |
| Sec. 3-684. Soldier's Medal license plates. |
| 8 |
| (a) In addition to any other special license plate, the |
| 9 |
| Secretary, upon
receipt of all applicable fees and applications |
| 10 |
| made in the form prescribed by
the Secretary of State, may |
| 11 |
| issue Soldier's Medal license plates to residents of
Illinois |
| 12 |
| who have earned the Soldier's Medal from the United States |
| 13 |
| Armed Forces. The special plates issued under this Section |
| 14 |
| shall be
affixed only to passenger vehicles of the first |
| 15 |
| division, motorcycles, and
motor vehicles of the second |
| 16 |
| division weighing not more than 8,000 pounds.

| under this Section shall expire according to the staggered
|
| 18 |
| multi-year procedure established by Section 3-414.1 of this |
| 19 |
| Code.

| 20 |
| (b) The design, color, and format of the plates shall be |
| 21 |
| wholly
within the discretion of the Secretary of State. The |
| 22 |
| Secretary may, in his or
her discretion, allow the plates to be |
| 23 |
| issued as vanity plates or personalized
in accordance with |
