Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Provides that the owner of a motor vehicle of the second division weighing 8,000 pounds or less propelled by an
electric engine and not utilizing motor fuel, may register the motor vehicle for
a fee not to exceed $35 for a 2-year registration period. Effective immediately.

| Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
| 3 |
| represented in the General Assembly:
|

| Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by changing |
| 5 |
| Section 3-805 as follows:
|

| Sec. 3-805. Electric vehicles.
The owner of a motor |
| 8 |
| vehicle of the first division or a motor vehicle of the second |
| 9 |
| division weighing 8,000 pounds or less propelled by an
electric |

| engine and not utilizing motor fuel, may register such vehicle |
| 11 |
| for
a fee not to exceed $35 for a 2-year registration period.

| The Secretary may, in his discretion, prescribe that electric |
| 13 |
| vehicle
registration plates be issued for an indefinite term, |
| 14 |
| such term to correspond
to the term of registration plates |
| 15 |
| issued generally, as provided in Section
3-414.1. In no event |
| 16 |
| may the registration fee for electric vehicles exceed
$18 per |
| 17 |
| registration year.

| Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon |
