Amends the Clerks of Courts Act. Provides that when the circuit clerk is required to provide notice to a party, and the party has registered an electronic address with the circuit clerk, the circuit clerk may provide the notice via the electronic address. Provides that the circuit clerk shall maintain a copy of the electronic content and a delivery receipt in his or her records. Provides that electronic notices shall have the same effect as a hard copy notice. Effective immediately.

| AN ACT concerning courts.
|

| Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|

| represented in the General Assembly:
|

| Section 5. The Clerks of Courts Act is amended by adding |
5 |
| Section 12.1 as follows: |

| (705 ILCS 105/12.1 new) |
7 |
| Sec. 12.1. Electronic notice. When the circuit clerk is |
8 |
| required to provide notice to a party, and the party has |
9 |
| registered an electronic address with the circuit clerk, the |
10 |
| circuit clerk may provide the required notice via the |
11 |
| registered electronic address. The circuit clerk shall |
12 |
| maintain a copy of the electronic content and a delivery |
13 |
| receipt as part of the records of his or her office. Electronic |
14 |
| notices shall have the same effect as a hard copy notice.

| Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon |
16 |
| becoming law.
