Amends the Criminal Code of 1961. Provides that the statute prohibiting a person from possessing or storing a dangerous weapon in any building or on land supported in whole or in part with public
funds or in any building on such land without
prior written permission from the chief security officer for such land or
building does not prevent a person from storing or transporting a firearm in his or her vehicle in accordance with the Code or while parked in any parking lot. Effective immediately.

| AN ACT concerning criminal law.

| Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
3 |
| represented in the General Assembly:
|

| Section 5. The Criminal Code of 1961 is amended by changing |
5 |
| Section 21-6 as follows:
|

| (720 ILCS 5/21-6) (from Ch. 38, par. 21-6)

| Sec. 21-6. Unauthorized Possession or Storage of Weapons.
|
8 |
| (a) Whoever possesses or stores any weapon enumerated in |
9 |
| Section 33A-1
in any building or on land supported in whole or |
10 |
| in part with public
funds or in any building on such land |
11 |
| without
prior written permission from the chief security |
12 |
| officer for such land or
building commits a Class A |
13 |
| misdemeanor.
|

| (b) The chief security officer must grant any reasonable |
15 |
| request for
permission under paragraph (a).
|
16 |
| (c) Nothing in this Section prevents a person from storing |
17 |
| or transporting a firearm in his or her vehicle, in accordance |
18 |
| with Section 24-1, 24-1.6, or 24-2 of this Code, or while |
19 |
| parked in any parking lot. |

| Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon |

| becoming law.
