2 | AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend House Bill 5918 on page 1, by | ||||||
3 | replacing lines 6 through 15 with the following:

4 | "(745 ILCS 49/71 new) | ||||||
5 | Sec. 71. Exemption from civil liability in emergencies | ||||||
6 | requiring building evacuations. Any person, other than a person | ||||||
7 | specified in Section 70 of this Act, who in good faith provides | ||||||
8 | care, assistance, or emergency equipment to any person at the | ||||||
9 | scene of an emergency that necessitates the evacuation of a | ||||||
10 | building shall not, as a result of his or her acts or | ||||||
11 | omissions, except willful and wanton misconduct on the part of | ||||||
12 | the person in providing the care, assistance, or equipment, be | ||||||
13 | liable to a person to whom such care, assistance, or equipment | ||||||
14 | is provided for civil damages. This Section shall not apply to | ||||||
15 | a person who receives a fee or compensation specifically for | ||||||
16 | the care, assistance, or emergency equipment that is | ||||||
17 | provided. ".
