Amends the Revised Cities and Villages Act of 1941. With respect to nomination petitions of candidates for Chicago alderman, (i) makes the minimum number of petition signatures 500 (now, equal to 2% of the total ward vote for that office in the most recent general municipal election or, after redistricting, 2% of the mayoral vote in the most recent general municipal election divided by the number of wards), (ii) prohibits the enforcement of a maximum number of petition signatures, and (iii) prohibits a person from signing the petitions of more than one candidate for the same aldermanic office at the same primary. Effective immediately.

| AN ACT concerning elections.

| Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|

| represented in the General Assembly:
|

| Section 5. The Revised Cities and Villages Act of 1941 is |

| amended by changing Section 21-28 as follows:
|

| Sec. 21-28. Nomination by petition. |
8 |
| (a) All nominations for alderman of any ward in the city |
9 |
| shall be by
petition. All petitions for nominations of |
10 |
| candidates shall be signed by
500 such a number of legal voters |
11 |
| of the ward as will aggregate not less
than two per cent
of all |
12 |
| the votes cast for alderman in such ward at the last preceding
|
13 |
| general election . A maximum number of petition signatures for a |
14 |
| candidate for the office of alderman shall not be imposed or |
15 |
| enforced. A person may not sign the nomination petitions of |
16 |
| more than one candidate for the same office of alderman with |
17 |
| respect to the same primary. For the election following the |
18 |
| redistricting of wards
petitions for nominations of candidates |
19 |
| shall be signed by the number of
legal voters of the ward as |
20 |
