    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,

represented in the General Assembly:

    Section 5. The Public Utilities Act is amended  by adding

Section 8-515 as follows:

    (220 ILCS 5/8-515 new)

    Sec. 8-515. Smart grid technology; minimum standards 
8
required. The Commission shall adopt minimum standards for

smart grid technology for electric service by rule and require 
10
electric utilities to comply with those standards.
