| WHEREAS, February 19th, 2009 marks the 30th anniversary of |
| 3 |
| the Hispanic American Construction Industry Association |
| 4 |
| (HACIA), a 501 (c)(6) organization that works to ensure the |
| 5 |
| equitable participation of its constituents in the |
| 6 |
| construction industry, while also promoting the growth, |
| 7 |
| quality of work, professionalism, and integrity of those |
| 8 |
| individuals and businesses; and
|
| 9 |
| WHEREAS, Founded in Chicago in 1979 by a small contingency |
| 10 |
| of Hispanic construction business owners, HACIA now serves over |
| 11 |
| 300 construction-related firms throughout Illinois and serves |
| 12 |
| as the premier construction-related organization advocating |
| 13 |
| for equal access within the industry; and
|
| 14 |
| WHEREAS, HACIA represents over 100,000 construction |
| 15 |
| workers and professional service employees in the industry who |
| 16 |
| have contributed to the building of Chicago's skyline and other |
| 17 |
| significant landmarks throughout the great State of Illinois; |
| 18 |
| and
|
| 19 |
| WHEREAS, HACIA sees the need to equip a growing Hispanic |
| 20 |
| community with the tools necessary to compete and succeed at |
| 21 |
| new business opportunities; HACIA believes that, like any |
| 22 |
| group, Hispanics must continuously obtain new training and |
