HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION

    WHEREAS, Increasing opportunities for minorities to 
3
participate at all levels of education is and should be a top 
4
priority in the State of Illinois; and

 
5
    WHEREAS, The General Assembly believes that continuing the 
6
progress of historically disadvantaged groups will require a 
7
concerted effort on the part of all of the higher education 
8
community, as well as legislative and executive branches of 
9
State government; and

 
10
    WHEREAS, Despite efforts in the past from the Senate 
11
Subcommittee on Minority Concerns in Higher Education and 
12
others, there is much that still needs to be considered and 
13
acted upon to address the needs of minorities to ensure 
14
continued equity in our educational system; therefore, be it

 
15
    RESOLVED, BY THE  HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
16
NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE 
17
SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that a Joint Committee on the Status 
18
of Minorities in Education be established; and be it further

 
19
    RESOLVED, That this Committee be composed of 3 members from 
20
each of the Senate Committees on Education and Higher 
21
Education, 2 appointed by each Chairman and one appointed by

each Minority Spokesman; and 3 members from each of the House 
2
Committees on Elementary and Secondary Education and Higher 
3
Education, 2 appointed by each Chairman and one appointed by 
4
each Minority Spokesman; and be it further

    RESOLVED, That this Joint Committee conduct hearings and 
6
investigate other matters appropriate to the status of 
7
minorities in education; and be it further
 
8
    RESOLVED, That this Committee shall submit a report to the 
9
General Assembly on or before March 1, 2010.
