1 | HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION

2 | WHEREAS, The State of Illinois recognizes the nationwide | ||||||
3 | seriousness of drug abuse and violence by our nation's and our | ||||||
4 | State's youth, and the urgent need to use and to expand | ||||||
5 | school-based prevention education programs throughout the | ||||||
6 | nation; and | ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, The day-to-day struggle against alcohol abuse, | ||||||
8 | tobacco, drugs, and violence requires a long-term national, | ||||||
9 | state, and local effort and commitment; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Since 1983, the Drug Abuse Resistance Education | ||||||
11 | (D.A.R.E.) Program has taught millions of young people how to | ||||||
12 | recognize and to resist the pressure to be involved in drugs, | ||||||
13 | gangs, and violent activities; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, The D.A.R.E. Program underscores a nationwide | ||||||
15 | commitment and dedication to help our nation's youth to "just | ||||||
16 | say no" to drugs and to violence; and | ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, By promoting positive youth development, D.A.R.E. | ||||||
18 | Programs across our nation are helping children and young | ||||||
19 | people make the right choices and build lives of purpose; and

20 | WHEREAS, The D.A.R.E. Program allows law enforcement |

1 | personnel to enter our nation's classrooms to answer difficult | ||||||
2 | questions about drugs, violence and crime, teaches students how | ||||||
3 | to avoid temptation, and encourages open communication between | ||||||
4 | young people and local law enforcement officers; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, The D.A.R.E. Program strengthens our local | ||||||
6 | communities and provides our children and young people with a | ||||||
7 | strong foundation and model for success; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, D.A.R.E. Instructors, along with parents, | ||||||
9 | teachers, health care professionals, and all other interested | ||||||
10 | parties who help our nation's youth grow into responsible, | ||||||
11 | successful adults, are strengthening our country and | ||||||
12 | contributing to a future of hope for everyone; and | ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, The State of Illinois recognizes the nationwide | ||||||
14 | seriousness of drug abuse and violence by the youth of our | ||||||
15 | nation and our State, and the urgent need to use and to expand | ||||||
16 | school-based prevention education programs throughout the | ||||||
17 | nation; and

18 | WHEREAS, Illinois' D.A.R.E. Program shows a commitment by | ||||||
19 | the State to never cease in its duties to fight the war on | ||||||
20 | drugs and violence; therefore, be it | ||||||
21 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |

1 | NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE | ||||||
2 | SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we recognize October 15th, 2010, | ||||||
3 | and every October 15 thereafter, as D.A.R.E. Day in the State | ||||||
4 | of Illinois, and encourage all citizens to support and partake | ||||||
5 | in their local D.A.R.E. programs.
