| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives are pleased to congratulate Hugh A. Muir on the | ||||||
| 4 | occasion of his 100th birthday on March 2, 2009; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Hugh A. Muir was born on March 2, 1909 at 1216 S. | ||||||
| 6 | 3rd Avenue in Maywood; he attended Emerson Elementary School | ||||||
| 7 | and Proviso Township High School, where he graduated in 1927; | ||||||
| 8 | and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, Hugh A. Muir's first job was with the Jerry F. | ||||||
| 10 | Coughlin Meat Market at 10 N. 5th Avenue in Maywood; he became | ||||||
| 11 | manager of the Market in 1936, the year he married Natalie | ||||||
| 12 | Jacobson, with whom he raised two sons and a daughter; he and | ||||||
| 13 | his brother, Henry, eventually acquired the Jerry Coughlin Meat | ||||||
| 14 | Market and renamed it the Muir Brothers Meat Market, which they | ||||||
| 15 | operated from 1948 to 1975; and
| ||||||
| 16 | WHEREAS, Hugh A. Muir was a charter member of the Maywood | ||||||
| 17 | Chamber of Commerce, which was established in 1939, and is the | ||||||
| 18 | chamber's sole surviving Founding Father; and | ||||||
| 19 | WHEREAS, During World War II, Hugh A. Muir served as | ||||||
| 20 | Assistant Fire Chief of the Maywood Civil Defense Fire | ||||||
| 21 | Department; from 1949 to 1977, he served as a Maywood Village | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | Trustee, during which time he served as Chairman of the Finance | ||||||
| 2 | Committee and the Fire Committee; he also served as a member of | ||||||
| 3 | the Police Pension Board; and
| ||||||
| 4 | WHEREAS, In 1990, the Village of Maywood renamed Iowa | ||||||
| 5 | Street "Hugh Muir Lane" in honor of Mr. Muir and his many | ||||||
| 6 | accomplishments; and
| ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, In 1993, Hugh A. Muir received the | ||||||
| 8 | Maywood-Broadview Kiwanis Club "Citizen of the Year" Award and | ||||||
| 9 | was also named an Honorary Lifetime Board Member of the Maywood | ||||||
| 10 | Chamber of Commerce at the Chamber's Installation and Awards | ||||||
| 11 | Banquet in 1999; in 2001, he was presented the Golden Heritage | ||||||
| 12 | Award by Operation Uplift; and | ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, Hugh A. Muir has been a lifetime participant in | ||||||
| 14 | the Boy Scouts of America and has served as an Assistant | ||||||
| 15 | Scoutmaster and member of the Thatcher Woods Council; he is | ||||||
| 16 | also a member of the Wesleyan Church in Broadview, the Lions | ||||||
| 17 | Club, and the Masonic Fraternity; and
| ||||||
| 18 | WHEREAS, In his 100 years of life, Hugh A. Muir has | ||||||
| 19 | contributed much to the Village of Maywood through his | ||||||
| 20 | activities and his code of ethics; he has inspired countless | ||||||
| 21 | others as a beacon of Christianity, an outstanding husband, and | ||||||
| 22 | a wonderful father; therefore, be it
| ||||||

| 1 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 2 | NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 3 | congratulate Hugh A. Muir on the occasion of his 100th birthday | ||||||
| 4 | and wish him many happy and healthy years to come; and be it | ||||||
| 5 | further

| 6 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 7 | presented to Hugh A. Muir as a symbol of our esteem and | ||||||
| 8 | respect.
