HOUSE RESOLUTION

    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3
Representatives are pleased to congratulate Art Donner on being 
4
named the Darien Citizen of the Year; and

 
5
    WHEREAS, Art Donner has been an active volunteer in Darien 
6
for over twenty years; and

 
7
    WHEREAS, He has been Representative of the DuPage County 
8
Community Development Commission and Chairman of the DuPage 
9
Housing Authority, where he spearheaded the development of 
10
affordable housing for the elderly in Darien, allowing seniors 
11
the option of remaining in Darien when they retire; he also 
12
lobbied in Washington, D.C., and Springfield to bring more tax 
13
dollars to DuPage County; and

 
14
    WHEREAS, He is a long-time member and past President of the 
15
Darien Lions Club; he received the Lion of the Year Award in 
16
1997 and the Melvin Jones Lifetime Achievement Fellowship Award 
17
for outstanding service in 2007; he is currently the Chair of 
18
the Calling Committee and past Chair of the Candy Day Committee 
19
for the Lions Club foundations; he also established the Darien 
20
Lions Club Foundation, which will help the community, providing 
21
a variety of local needs; and

    WHEREAS, He is a member of Our Lady of Peace Church; he 
2
served as the City Treasurer for four years, using his skills 
3
as a CPA; and

 
4
    WHEREAS, He is a member of the Police Pension Board; he 
5
serves as a DuPage County Committeeman; he donates time and 
6
energy to the Darien Historical Society; he participates in 
7
serving senior groups and a national non-profit organization 
8
that promotes social justice and battles racism; and he is a 
9
board member and treasurer of a non-profit lake association; 
10
therefore, be it

 
11
    RESOLVED, BY THE  HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
12
NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
13
congratulate Art Donner on being named Darien Citizen of the 
14
Year and wish him the best in his future endeavors; and be it 
15
further

    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
17
presented to Art Donner as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
