| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, It is clear that the past two gubernatorial |
| 3 |
| administrations did not consult with the alumni associations of |
| 4 |
| the various State universities before making appointments to |
| 5 |
| those universities' boards of trustees; and
|
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, A degree from a particular institution does not |
| 7 |
| automatically qualify an individual to be a trustee, nor should |
| 8 |
| a non-graduate automatically be disqualified from service; |
| 9 |
| nonetheless, a successful trustee ought to have a longstanding |
| 10 |
| relationship with his or her particular university; it stands |
| 11 |
| to reason that the mandatory predicate for any trustee |
| 12 |
| candidate should be an intangible love for the institution of |
| 13 |
| higher education that he or she is being asked to serve; |
| 14 |
| therefore, be it

| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 16 |
| NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
| 17 |
| urge Governor Quinn to return to the practice of selecting |
| 18 |
| State university trustees from a list provided by and vetted by |
| 19 |
| the alumni association of the State university in question; and |
| 20 |
| be it further

| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 22 |
| delivered to Governor Quinn.
