| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 |
| Representatives are pleased to congratulate the administration |
4 |
| and employees of PepsiCo's Chicago headquarters and the members |
5 |
| of the PepsiCo Green Chicago Team on the occasion of receiving |
6 |
| the prestigious Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design |
7 |
| (LEED) Silver Certification from the U.S. Green Building |
8 |
| Council; and
|
9 |
| WHEREAS, The LEED Green Building Rating System is the |
10 |
| nationally accepted benchmark for maximizing operational |
11 |
| efficiency while minimizing environmental impacts in existing |
12 |
| buildings operations and maintenance; to earn LEED |
13 |
| certification, points are awarded for building attributes in |
14 |
| five categories: Sustainable Sites, Water Efficiency, Energy & |
15 |
| Atmosphere, Materials & Resources, and Indoor Environmental |
16 |
| Quality; and
|
17 |
| WHEREAS, PepsiCo's Chicago Plaza office earned this |
18 |
| prestigious recognition by reducing the building's energy use |
19 |
| by 10 percent in less than a year, cutting water usage to 37 |
20 |
| percent below Energy Policy Act performance standards, and |
21 |
| eliminating almost 226 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions |
22 |
| through energy saving programs; and
|

| WHEREAS, The PepsiCo Green Chicago Team, an |
2 |
| employee-established environmental committee, focused on four |
3 |
| critical elements in the large-scale effort to obtain LEED |
4 |
| certification, including energy savings, specifically the use |
5 |
| of employee-nominated floor leaders to keep employees engaged |
6 |
| and aware of their daily energy use; waste reduction, which |
7 |
| involves monthly contests that pit each of the 16 floors |
8 |
| against each other in competition to reduce waste, recycling, |
9 |
| involving a formal recycling program that focused on recycling |
10 |
| 100 percent of the recyclable glass, paper, plastic, cardboard, |
11 |
| batteries, printer/fax cartridges, and light bulbs discarded |
12 |
| in the Chicago Plaza's refuse bins; and air quality, which |
13 |
| involves the replacement of all janitorial and cleaning |
14 |
| products with alternative cleaning products that meet the |
15 |
| USGBC's stringent Sustainable Cleaning Products and Materials |
16 |
| standards and the improvement of the building's HVAC system to |
17 |
| be more efficient; and
|
18 |
| WHEREAS, Building on PepsiCo's "Performance with Purpose" |
19 |
| sustainability vision to improve environmental, social, and |
20 |
| economic aspects for a better tomorrow, the (LEED) Silver |
21 |
| Certification the headquarters has received reinforces |
22 |
| PepsiCo's commitment to reduce the impact of its businesses on |
23 |
| the environment; PepsiCo's Green Team is now working with other |
24 |
| PepsiCo office buildings across the country to encourage |
25 |
| greater environmental responsibility and LEED certification of |

| company's commitment; therefore, be it

| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |

| NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
5 |
| congratulate the administration and employees of PepsiCo's |
6 |
| Chicago headquarters and the members of the PepsiCo Green |
7 |
| Chicago Team on the occasion of receiving the LEED Silver |
8 |
| Certification and wish them continued success in their future |
9 |
| endeavors; and be it further

| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
