| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 |
| Representatives are pleased to honor accomplishments in the |
4 |
| lives of citizens of the State of Illinois; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, Rebecca Sive, civic leader, staunch feminist, and |
6 |
| outspoken advocate for social justice, has won the Civic |
7 |
| Engagement, Community Service and Community Organizing Award |
8 |
| from the University of Illinois at Chicago's Department of |
9 |
| Gender and Women's Studies; and
|
10 |
| WHEREAS, Rebecca received a B.A. in Urban Studies from |
11 |
| Carleton College, which also bestowed upon her the |
12 |
| Distinguished Achievement Award; she received her M.A. in |
13 |
| American History from the University of Illinois, where she |
14 |
| began her career as a community organizer; and |
15 |
| WHEREAS, Rebecca was a Commissioner, Finance Committee |
16 |
| Chair, and General Operations Committee Chair of the Chicago |
17 |
| Park District, an independent unit of government; she was a |
18 |
| founding Commissioner of the Illinois Human Rights Commission; |
19 |
| she was a Vice-Chair and the only woman member of the Executive |
20 |
| Committee of the Chicago 1992 World's Fair Authority; she was |
21 |
| also a former executive at the Playboy Foundation; and
|

| WHEREAS, Rebecca has held numerous other appointments on |
2 |
| governmental, organizational, and philanthropic boards and |
3 |
| committees; among them, she has served on the boards of |
4 |
| directors of Public Allies - Chicago, the Jewish Community |
5 |
| Centers of Metropolitan Chicago, NARAL Pro-Choice America, The |
6 |
| Woodlawn Community Development Corporation, the Jewish Fund |
7 |
| for Justice, and the YWCA of Metropolitan Chicago; and
|
8 |
| WHEREAS, Rebecca has been elected into Today's Chicago |
9 |
| Woman 20th Anniversary Hall of Fame; she is listed in Who's Who |
10 |
| in America, Who's Who of American Women, and Feminists Who |
11 |
| Changed America; she is a member of The Economic Club of |
12 |
| Chicago and has received numerous other honors, including the |
13 |
| Jaycees of Chicago Outstanding Young Citizen's Award, the YWCA |
14 |
| of Metropolitan Chicago Outstanding Community Leadership |
15 |
| Award, and the Chicago Urban League Woman of Distinction Award; |
16 |
| and
|
17 |
| WHEREAS, Rebecca is a seasoned executive, with in-depth |
18 |
| leadership experience in business, government, philanthropy, |
19 |
| and the not-for-profit sector; she is principal and chief |
20 |
| strategist of The Sive Group, a public affairs firm; she has |
21 |
| also written frequently on a variety of public policy matters, |
22 |
| beginning with early articles in Chicago's feminist press and |
23 |
| publication of the Chicago Women's Directory/Guia para las |
24 |
| Mujeres de Chicago; therefore, be it

| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |

| NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |

| congratulate Rebecca Sive on being given the University of |

| Illinois Department of Gender and Women's Studies Civic |
5 |
| Engagement, Community Service and Community Organizing Award |
6 |
| and wish her continued success in the future; and be it further
