2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are pleased to congratulate the Hinckley-Big | ||||||
4 | Rock girl's basketball team, the Lady Royals, on the occasion | ||||||
5 | of winning the Class 1A State championship on February 28th, | ||||||
6 | 2009 at Illinois State's Redbird Arena; and | ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, The 2009 Lady Royals are the first Hinckley-Big | ||||||
8 | Rock girls team and just the second Hinckley-Big Rock team to | ||||||
9 | ever make it to the State finals in basketball; and | ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, The members of the Lady Royals are freshmen Katie | ||||||
11 | Hollis and Kaitlin Philips, sophomores Alyssa Baunach and Tess | ||||||
12 | Godhardt, juniors Jes Meyer, Jenna Thorp, Maxzine Rossler, and | ||||||
13 | Jessica Leifheit, and seniors Bianca Edmeier and Melissa | ||||||
14 | Herrmann; the team's head coach is Greg Burks and the assistant | ||||||
15 | coaches are Dan Rasich and Jerry Tokars; the team manager is | ||||||
16 | Chris Stola, the athletic director is Bill Sambrooks, the | ||||||
17 | principal is Bob Atherton, and the Superintendent is Dr. Jim | ||||||
18 | Hammack; and | ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, The towns of Hinckley and Big Rock have a history | ||||||
20 | of soccer even though Hinckley was the site of the first Harlem | ||||||
21 | Globetrotters game in 1927, in which the Hinckley Merchants | ||||||
22 | team beat the Globetrotters; the towns of Hinckley and Big Rock |

1 | have a combined population of 2,300; and the Hinckley-Big Rock | ||||||
2 | High School educates 272 students; and | ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, Coach Greg Burks graduated from Hinckley-Big Rock | ||||||
4 | in 1996 and after college coached the Hinckley-Big Rock track | ||||||
5 | program in 2002, then the middle school soccer team, and in | ||||||
6 | 2008 took over as coach of the Lady Royals; and | ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Every member of the team played and contributed to | ||||||
8 | the overall success of the Lady Royals; the team won their | ||||||
9 | first State championship with a 42-30 victory; and finished the | ||||||
10 | season with a record of 31-3; and | ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, The team demonstrated exemplary teamwork, | ||||||
12 | sportsmanship, and athletic excellence, and will serve as | ||||||
13 | cherished role models for years to come, and all but two | ||||||
14 | members of the team will return next year; returning players | ||||||
15 | include Illinois Basketball Coaches Association First Team | ||||||
16 | All-State Jenna Thorp and standouts Tess Godhardt, Maxine | ||||||
17 | Rossler, Jes Meyer, and Kaitlin Philips; therefore, be it
| ||||||
18 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
19 | NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
20 | congratulate the Hinckley-Big Rock girl's basketball team, the | ||||||
21 | Lady Royals, and give our best wishes to the team members in | ||||||
22 | their future pursuits and wish them success for the next |
