| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 |
| Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of
Rachel |
| 4 |
| Fairbanks Sweitzer, who recently passed away; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Rachel Sweitzer was raised in Fairwater, |
| 6 |
| Wisconsin; she graduated from St. Agnes School of Nursing in |
| 7 |
| Fond du Lac in 1935; she worked for Hines V.A. Hospital near |
| 8 |
| Maywood before her military service; and
|
| 9 |
| WHEREAS, Rachel Sweitzer served as a Captain in the United |
| 10 |
| States Army Nurse Corps, serving during World War II; she |
| 11 |
| participated in the Allied invasion of France, landing at Utah |
| 12 |
| Beach in Normandy; she served with General George Patton while |
| 13 |
| in Europe; she met her husband while serving overseas; she was |
| 14 |
| awarded the Bronze Star and the Government of France awarded |
| 15 |
| her the National Order of the Legion of Honor on May 7, 2005 |
| 16 |
| for her service as a nurse during the war; and
|
| 17 |
| WHEREAS, Rachel Sweitzer will be remembered by all who knew |
| 18 |
| and loved her as a woman whose humility, bravery, and courage |
| 19 |
| inspired everyone she met; therefore, be it
|
