HOUSE RESOLUTION

    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3
Representatives are pleased that Frank Straus, a longtime and 
4
distinguished member of the House Republican Caucus budget 
5
staff for 25 years, reached the milestone of his fiftieth 
6
birthday on Saturday, March 19, 2009; and

 
7
    WHEREAS, Frank is known far and wide for his in-depth 
8
knowledge of economics, fiscal policy, and the State budget; 
9
and

 
10
    WHEREAS, While Frank is proud of his affiliation with the 
11
Republican Party, he always conducts himself in a bipartisan 
12
spirit and works  diligently to help advance the best interests 
13
of the State of Illinois; and

 
14
    WHEREAS, Frank is a graduate of Harvard University with a 
15
degree in Government; during his college years Frank was a 
16
widely-read columnist in the Harvard Crimson newspaper; and

 
17
    WHEREAS, Frank is also the co-author of "Walk a Crooked 
18
Trail-A Centennial History of Wawashkamo Golf Club" a book 
19
documenting the storied history of one of Michigan's oldest 
20
active golf courses; and

    WHEREAS, Frank actively documents Mackinac Island history 
2
with his crowd-pleasing and oft times uproarious columns in the 
3
Mackinac Island Town Crier-a weekly newspaper serving the 
4
Mackinac Island community; and

 
5
    WHEREAS, Frank is the son of Francis H. Straus and Lorna 
6
Puttkammer Straus; the brother of Helen, Christopher, and 
7
Michael; and the uncle of Ariana and Michael, the children of 
8
his brother Michael and his wife, Melissa; and

 
9
    WHEREAS, Frank has been a Sangamon County resident for many 
10
years, but remains true to his roots in Hyde Park on the 
11
southside of Chicago; no better testament to this fact exists 
12
than that he is a stalwart and avid Chicago White Sox fan; and

 
13
    WHEREAS, Frank has become a powerhouse in the Capital City 
14
Fantasy Football League, winning the League Championship in 
15
2007; and

 
16
    WHEREAS, Frank is far more accustomed to writing 
17
resolutions in honor of others than he is in having one written 
18
of him; his talents, accomplishments and many years of 
19
dedicated service to the people of Illinois more than make him 
20
worthy of such recognition; therefore, be it

 
21
    RESOLVED, BY THE  HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE

NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
2
congratulate Frank Straus on the significant and auspicious 
3
occasion of  his fiftieth birthday; and be it further

 
4
    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
5
presented to Frank Straus as a symbol of our respect and 
6
esteem.
