| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 |
| Representatives are pleased to congratulate Richard "Dick" |
| 4 |
| Shelby, the Regional Superintendent of schools with the |
| 5 |
| Macon-Piatt Regional Office of Education #39, on his |
| 6 |
| retirement; and
|
| 7 |
| WHEREAS, He began his career in Atwood Hammond Elementary |
| 8 |
| School, working as the elementary physical education teacher in |
| 9 |
| 1974; in the 1980s he began teaching in the classroom; in 1990 |
| 10 |
| he became the high school principal and in 1995 became the |
| 11 |
| elementary school principal; and
|
| 12 |
| WHEREAS, In 2000 he became the Assistant Regional |
| 13 |
| Superintendent; in 2005 he was appointed the Regional |
| 14 |
| Superintendent and was elected to that position in 2006; and
|
| 15 |
| WHEREAS, He has served at the Regional Office of Education |
| 16 |
| for nine years; and
|
| 17 |
| WHEREAS, He has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Millikin |
| 18 |
| University, majoring in physical education; he has a Master of |
| 19 |
| Science degree in education administration from Eastern |
| 20 |
| Illinois University; and a Superintendent Endorsement from the |
| 21 |
| University of Illinois; and
|

| WHEREAS, His community service includes work with the |
| 2 |
| United Way Allocation Committee, the Human Service Agency |
| 3 |
| Consortium, the Project Success Board, the Decatur Rotary Club, |
| 4 |
| the Macon County Criminal Justice Council, the Partner's in |
| 5 |
| Education Board, the Educational Committees for former State |
| 6 |
| Senator Noland and current State Representative Flider, the |
| 7 |
| Decatur Area Labor Management Committee Board, the Decatur Drop |
| 8 |
| Out Task Force, the Central Illinois Commission on Children and |
| 9 |
| Youth, and Big Brothers and Big Sisters, where he plays Santa |
| 10 |
| Claus at their annual Christmas party; and
|
| 11 |
| WHEREAS, He has been married to Karen for 37 years; and |
| 12 |
| they have two sons, Shawn and Jason; therefore, be it
|
| 13 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 14 |
| NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
| 15 |
| congratulate Richard Shelby on his retirement and wish him the |
| 16 |
| best in his future endeavors; and be it further
|
| 17 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 18 |
| presented to Richard Shelby as a symbol of our respect and |
| 19 |
| esteem.
