| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 |
| Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of
U.S. Army |
4 |
| Specialist Norman Cain III of Mount Morris, formerly of |
5 |
| Freeport, who was killed in action near Kot in eastern |
6 |
| Afghanistan on March 15, 2009; and
|
7 |
| WHEREAS, Spc. Norman Cain III was born on November 23, 1986 |
8 |
| in Madison, Wisconsin; he was the son of Norman L. and Lisa |
9 |
| Wise) Cain Jr.; he married the love of his life, Brigette |
10 |
| Peterson, on July 3, 2008 in Mount Morris; and
|
11 |
| WHEREAS, He was a graduate of Freeport High School; after |
12 |
| high school, he attended the Highland Community College Auto |
13 |
| Mechanics School; and |
14 |
| WHEREAS, He joined the Illinois National Guard on July 27, |
15 |
| 2007; after completing basic training at Fort Benning, Georgia, |
16 |
| he served his country with pride and distinction as a member of |
17 |
| Company D, 1st Battalion of the 178th Infantry Division based |
18 |
| out of Woodstock; he was mobilized with the 1st Battalion to |
19 |
| Afghanistan on August 21, 2008, where he served with the SECFOR |
20 |
| Platoon in support of the Provincial Reconstruction Team in |
21 |
| Nangarhar; and
|
|

| WHEREAS, He was well known by his fellow soldiers as the |
2 |
| "spark" of his squad and a man who could always be counted |
3 |
| upon; and
|
4 |
| WHEREAS, He was the recipient of numerous awards and |
5 |
| decorations for his meritorious service, including the NATO |
6 |
| Medal, the National Defense Service Medal (with Bronze Star), |
7 |
| the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism |
8 |
| Service Medal, the Armed Forces Reserve Medal with device, the |
9 |
| Army Service Ribbon, and the Overseas Service Ribbon; and |
10 |
| WHEREAS, He enjoyed working on cars, playing darts, and |
11 |
| picking on his brothers and sisters; he also enjoyed playing |
12 |
| his special music tape, which included Montgomery Gentry's |
13 |
| "Lucky Man"; his greatest joy in his life, however, was his |
14 |
| family; and
|
15 |
| WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his paternal |
16 |
| grandfather, Norman Cain Sr.; his paternal great-grandparents; |
17 |
| and his maternal great-grandfather; and
|
18 |
| WHEREAS, He is survived by his wife, Brigette; his parents, |
19 |
| Norman L. (Tina) Cain Jr. and Lisa (Mark) Otto; his son, Toryn |
20 |
| Cain; his step-daughter, Fallon Spielman; his paternal |
21 |
| grandmother, JoAnn Cain; his maternal grandmother, Pamela |
22 |
| Wise; his maternal great-grandmothers, Delta Mooney and Reva |

| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
5 |
| NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
6 |
| mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of U.S. |
7 |
| Army Specialist Norman Cain III; and be it further
|
8 |
| RESOLVED, That we honor the memory of Specialist Norman |
9 |
| Cain III and his willingness to serve our country, which led to |
10 |
| him making the ultimate sacrifice; and be it further |
11 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
12 |
| presented to the family of Specialist Norman Cain III as an |
13 |
| expression of our sympathy.
