| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 |
| Representatives are pleased to congratulate Des Plaines Mayor |
4 |
| Anthony Arredia on his retirement; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, Mayor Anthony W. Arredia "Tony" has been Mayor of |
6 |
| Des Plaines for 10 years, being appointed by the City Council |
7 |
| to fulfill the term of the late Paul Jung in January of 2000 |
8 |
| and then being elected to 2 subsequent terms; Mayor Arredia |
9 |
| will leave office in May of 2009 due to term limits;
and
|
10 |
| WHEREAS, During his time as Mayor, he established a |
11 |
| successful budgeting plan that not only carried the City of Des |
12 |
| Plaines through the 9-11 crisis, but has kept the City |
13 |
| financially stable through the latest economic downturn;
|
14 |
| during his tenure he increased Des Plaines' visibility, |
15 |
| influence, and political position within the Northwest |
16 |
| Suburbs, Cook County, and the State of Illinois; and
|
17 |
| WHEREAS, He served as president of the Northwest Municipal |
18 |
| Conference during its 50th anniversary year;
he lead the way |
19 |
| for the completion of the award winning Levee 50 project and |
20 |
| the Riverwalk, saving many homes from damage during flooding;
|
21 |
| he lead a team of legislators to override the Governor's veto |
22 |
| of the Stormwater Bill, establishing the Metropolitan Water |
|

| Reclamation District as the authority for stormwater |
2 |
| management in Cook County; and
|
3 |
| WHEREAS, In addition he spearheaded the development of the |
4 |
| downtown area and supported a very aggressive Economic |
5 |
| Development Plan, including providing support and guidance, |
6 |
| culminating in the awarding of the 10th Casino license to |
7 |
| Midwest Gaming in Des Plaines;
and
|
8 |
| WHEREAS, He provided leadership for the many all-City |
9 |
| annual events run by the Special Events Commission for the |
10 |
| benefit of residents and visitors, including the Taste of Des |
11 |
| Plaines, the 4th of July Parade and Fireworks, and the |
12 |
| non-alcoholic, family-oriented, New Year's Eve celebration;
he |
13 |
| worked closely with the 1st Lady, Jean Arredia, to establish |
14 |
| and administer the 1st Lady's Tea and Luncheon for the benefit |
15 |
| of the Des Plaines Community Foundation;
and
|
16 |
| WHEREAS, Mayor Arredia continued, in cooperation with the |
17 |
| Des Plaines Ministerial Association, the highly successful |
18 |
| annual Mayor's Prayer Breakfast for the benefit of the Illinois |
19 |
| Burn Camp;
he lead the way for the establishment of Des |
20 |
| Plaines' highly successful Teen Center;
and he became a charter |
21 |
| member of the Board of Trustees which launched the Healthy |
22 |
| Community Partnership Foundation, now the Des Plaines |
23 |
| Community Foundation, to provide help for residents in need of |

| house repairs and aid for the disabled;
he began the |
2 |
| establishment of cultural relations between Des Plaines and the |
3 |
| City of Zuromin, Poland, by hosting visitors from the Public |
4 |
| Library of Zuromin and Warsaw;
and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, Mayor Arredia has never failed to credit the hard |
6 |
| work of both past and current City Councils and the City staff, |
7 |
| both management and clerical; therefore, be it
|
8 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
9 |
| NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
10 |
| congratulate Mayor Anthony "Tony" Arredia on his retirement and |
11 |
| wish him the best in all his future endeavors; and be it |
12 |
| further
|
13 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
14 |
| presented to Mayor Anthony Arredia as a symbol of our respect |
15 |
| and esteem.
