| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |

| Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of
Jimmie |
4 |
| Lee Pierce of Springfield, who passed away on March 13, 2009; |
5 |
| and
|
6 |
| WHEREAS, Jimmie Lee Pierce was born on June 4, 1921 in |
7 |
| Redden, Oklahoma; he was the son of Joshua L. and Mary |
8 |
| Hardgrave Pierce; he married Donna Rich on April 13, 1950 in |
9 |
| Minonk; and
|
10 |
| WHEREAS, Jimmie Lee Pierce was born and raised on a farm in |
11 |
| Oklahoma, though early in his life he had the opportunity to |
12 |
| try out for the St. Louis Cardinals; Jimmie was a member of the |
13 |
| Civilian Conservation Corps prior to his service in the United |
14 |
| States Army during World War II, where he earned three Bronze |
15 |
| Stars and two Purple Hearts; and
|
16 |
| WHEREAS, Jimmie Lee Pierce attended the Diesel Engineering |
17 |
| School in St. Louis, Missouri; he was a co-owner of Pierce |
18 |
| Refined Oil and served as an executive with the Illinois |
19 |
| Environmental Protection Agency; and
|
20 |
| WHEREAS, Jimmie Lee Pierce enjoyed spending time with his |
21 |
| family and entertaining friends; he also enjoyed fishing, golf, |
|
|

| hunting, playing his guitar, and singing; he was a member of |
2 |
| Church of the Little Flower, the DAV, the Elks Club, and the |
3 |
| Springfield Motor Boat Club; and
|
4 |
| WHEREAS, Jimmie Lee Pierce was preceded in death by his |
5 |
| parents; his brothers, Lonnie, Ray, Ed, Perry, and Haskel; and |
6 |
| his sister, Vesta; and
|
7 |
| WHEREAS, Jimmie Lee Pierce is survived by his wife of |
8 |
| fifty-nine years, Donna Pierce; his daughters, Denise |
9 |
| (husband, John) Reid and Delane (husband, Ken) Cathers; his |
10 |
| grandchildren, Brandy, Nicholas (wife, LeAnne), Ashley, and |
11 |
| Shannon; his great-grandchildren, Sophia and Samantha; his |
12 |
| brothers, Jay Pierce and Clyde Pierce; and his sisters, Thelma |
13 |
| Cockrill and Louise Rowland; and
|
14 |
| WHEREAS, Jimmie Lee Pierce will be remembered by all who |
15 |
| knew and loved him as a good man who never met a stranger and |
16 |
| always had a joke to tell; therefore, be it
|
17 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
18 |
| NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
19 |
| mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Jimmie |
20 |
| Lee Pierce; and be it further
