| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION

| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives are pleased to congratulate Reverend Dale | ||||||
| 4 | Lawson, Sr., Pastor Emeritus Reverend Princeton McKinney, and | ||||||
| 5 | the congregation of Christ Temple Community Baptist Church, in | ||||||
| 6 | Markham, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the church; | ||||||
| 7 | and
| ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, The theme for the Golden Jubilee will be "Christ | ||||||
| 9 | Temple Baptist Church @ 50: Looking to the Future!"; and
| ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, On May 9, 1959 the founding pastor, Reverend | ||||||
| 11 | Princeton H. McKinney and several others gathered to organize | ||||||
| 12 | Christ Temple Baptist Church; land was purchased that same | ||||||
| 13 | year, and on Christmas Day of 1960 money was raised to complete | ||||||
| 14 | the payment of the "Little White Building"; and
| ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, On April 29, 1964 construction began on a new | ||||||
| 16 | church building and in August of that same year the move was | ||||||
| 17 | made to the new structure; and
| ||||||
| 18 | WHEREAS, The church continued to grow with the organization | ||||||
| 19 | of a Nurse Corps; installation of air conditioning in 1966; a | ||||||
| 20 | special prayer room was dedicated to the late Charles | ||||||
| 21 | Washington, Sr.; the first pew was purchased by Brother and | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | Sister Robert Varnado; additional parking space was purchased; | ||||||
| 2 | a new church sign was purchased; and S&H Green Stamps were | ||||||
| 3 | solicited and used to purchase a new piano for the sanctuary; | ||||||
| 4 | and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, An electronic lift was added to aid the | ||||||
| 6 | handicapped; and a day care center is now in operation; and | ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, On August 26, 2001, the 42nd anniversary and | ||||||
| 8 | retirement celebration for Pastor McKinney was held and the | ||||||
| 9 | street where the church resides was renamed P.H. McKinney | ||||||
| 10 | Street in his honor; installation services for current pastor, | ||||||
| 11 | Reverend Dale A. Lawson, were held in September of 2001; in | ||||||
| 12 | January of 2002 Reverend McKinney was recognized and named | ||||||
| 13 | Pastor Emeritus by Reverend Lawson and the church membership; | ||||||
| 14 | therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 15 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 16 | NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 17 | congratulate everyone who worships and is a part of the | ||||||
| 18 | glorious history of Christ Temple Baptist Church and wish them | ||||||
| 19 | continued success in the community; and be it further
| ||||||
| 20 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 21 | presented to Reverend Lawson, Reverend McKinney, and the | ||||||
| 22 | congregation of Christ Temple Baptist Church as a symbol of our | ||||||
