| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 |
| Representatives are pleased to congratulate George Porter, |
4 |
| Supervisor of Naperville Township, on his retirement; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, George Porter is a retired business executive who |
6 |
| served as a Township Trustee for 4 years before being elected |
7 |
| to the Supervisor's office in 1993, 1997, 2001, and 2005; he is |
8 |
| a native of Dayton, Pennsylvania; he received a diploma from |
9 |
| Robert Morris University in Pittsburgh with an Accounting and |
10 |
| Business Administration major; and he served 3 years in the |
11 |
| United States Army and is a member of American Legion Post No. |
12 |
| 43 in Naperville; and
|
13 |
| WHEREAS, He has been designated a Certified Computing |
14 |
| Professional (C.C.P.) by the Institute for Certification of |
15 |
| Computing Professionals (I.C.C.P.) and holds an Insurance |
16 |
| Producer's License from the Illinois Department of Financial |
17 |
| and Professional Regulation, Division of Insurance; he held |
18 |
| various positions in computer operations, programming, and |
19 |
| department management before becoming President and Chief |
20 |
| Operating Officer of a computer supplies company and later a |
21 |
| computer software development company; and he also owned and |
22 |
| operated a Sears retail dealer store; and
|

| WHEREAS, In 1981, he, his wife, Charlotte, and their 4 |
2 |
| children, George II, Faye, Joseph, and David, moved to |
3 |
| Naperville from Warren, Ohio; and the family circle has since |
4 |
| expanded with the addition of 2 daughters-in-law, Vivienne and |
5 |
| Sherry, as well as 4 granddaughters; and
|
6 |
| WHEREAS, He is a member of the Township Officials of |
7 |
| Illinois and is a former member of the Board of Directors of |
8 |
| Township Supervisors of Illinois; and he also serves as |
9 |
| Treasurer of the DuPage County Township Supervisors' |
10 |
| Association; and |
11 |
| WHEREAS, In 2004, the National Association of Towns and |
12 |
| Townships presented him with the Grassroots Government |
13 |
| Leadership Award at its annual conference in Washington, D.C.; |
14 |
| and this award is presented to one individual in the country |
15 |
| each year, and he was the only person from Illinois to have |
16 |
| received the award; and |
17 |
| WHEREAS, George Porter is a charter member and served as |
18 |
| Chairman of the Inter-Agency Paratransit Coordinating Council, |
19 |
| whose mission is to improve paratransit services in DuPage |
20 |
| County; he was recognized in 2003 by the DuPage Center for |
21 |
| Independent Living for having an outstanding commitment to the |
22 |
| Americans with Disabilities Act; and he also received the |
23 |
| "Ramp-Arts" Award from the City of Naperville Mayor's Advisory |

| Commission on Persons With Disabilities; and
|
2 |
| WHEREAS, He serves on the Fox Valley/Southwest DuPage |
3 |
| Initiative of Pace Suburban Bus Service, and he is a member of |
4 |
| the Implementation Team (representing townships) for the |
5 |
| DuPage Area Transit Plan through the DuPage Mayors and Managers |
6 |
| Conference; and he is active in local politics, serving as a |
7 |
| Republican Committeeman since 1982; and he served as Secretary |
8 |
| for 2 years, Vice Chairman for 2 years, and Chairman for 6 |
9 |
| years of the Naperville Township Republican Organization; and |
10 |
| WHEREAS, He is a member of Faith (formerly St. James) |
11 |
| Lutheran Church of Aurora, the Naperville Loyal Order of Moose |
12 |
| Lodge 1290, the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels, and |
13 |
| several Masonic fraternities; he is a member of the Exchange |
14 |
| Club of Naperville as well as the Naperville Sportsman's Club; |
15 |
| and he was recently appointed to serve on the Citizens Advisory |
16 |
| Board (C.A.B.) of Pace Suburban Bus Service; therefore, be it
|
17 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
18 |
| NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
19 |
| congratulate George Porter on his retirement and wish him all |
20 |
| the best in his future endeavors; and be it further
|
21 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
22 |
| presented to George Porter as a symbol of our respect and |
