HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate George Porter, Supervisor of Naperville Township, on his retirement; and

WHEREAS, George Porter is a retired business executive who served as a Township Trustee for 4 years before being elected to the Supervisor's office in 1993, 1997, 2001, and 2005; he is a native of Dayton, Pennsylvania; he received a diploma from Robert Morris University in Pittsburgh with an Accounting and Business Administration major; and he served 3 years in the United States Army and is a member of American Legion Post No. 43 in Naperville; and

WHEREAS, He has been designated a Certified Computing Professional (C.C.P.) by the Institute for Certification of Computing Professionals (I.C.C.P.) and holds an Insurance Producer's License from the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, Division of Insurance; he held various positions in computer operations, programming, and department management before becoming President and Chief Operating Officer of a computer supplies company and later a computer software development company; and he also owned and operated a Sears retail dealer store; and

WHEREAS, In 1981, he, his wife, Charlotte, and their 4 children, George II, Faye, Joseph, and David, moved to Naperville from Warren, Ohio; and the family circle has since expanded with the addition of 2 daughters-in-law, Vivienne and Sherry, as well as 4 granddaughters; and

WHEREAS, He is a member of the Township Officials of Illinois and is a former member of the Board of Directors of Township Supervisors of Illinois; and he also serves as Treasurer of the DuPage County Township Supervisors' Association; and

WHEREAS, In 2004, the National Association of Towns and Townships presented him with the Grassroots Government Leadership Award at its annual conference in Washington, D.C.; and this award is presented to one individual in the country each year, and he was the only person from Illinois to have received the award; and

WHEREAS, George Porter is a charter member and served as Chairman of the Inter-Agency Paratransit Coordinating Council, whose mission is to improve paratransit services in DuPage County; he was recognized in 2003 by the DuPage Center for Independent Living for having an outstanding commitment to the Americans with Disabilities Act; and he also received the "Ramp-Arts" Award from the City of Naperville Mayor's Advisory Commission on Persons With Disabilities; and

WHEREAS, He serves on the Fox Valley/Southwest DuPage Initiative of Pace Suburban Bus Service, and he is a member of the Implementation Team (representing townships) for the DuPage Area Transit Plan through the DuPage Mayors and Managers Conference; and he is active in local politics, serving as a Republican Committeeman since 1982; and he served as Secretary for 2 years, Vice Chairman for 2 years, and Chairman for 6 years of the Naperville Township Republican Organization; and

WHEREAS, He is a member of Faith (formerly St. James) Lutheran Church of Aurora, the Naperville Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1290, the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels, and several Masonic fraternities; he is a member of the Exchange Club of Naperville as well as the Naperville Sportsman's Club; and he was recently appointed to serve on the Citizens Advisory Board (C.A.B.) of Pace Suburban Bus Service; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate George Porter on his retirement and wish him all the best in his future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to George Porter as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
