2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are pleased to congratulate Lieutenant | ||||||
4 | Commander Paul J. McNabb on the occasion of his retirement as | ||||||
5 | Senior Naval Science Instructor of the East Aurora High School | ||||||
6 | Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps on August 31, 2009; | ||||||
7 | and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Lt. Cmdr. Paul McNabb has had a long and | ||||||
9 | distinguished career with the United States Navy; he entered | ||||||
10 | the Navy on July 7, 1972 as a Naval Flight Officer Candidate; | ||||||
11 | he received his wings as a Naval Flight Officer in June of | ||||||
12 | 1973; from 1974 to 1976, he served in Fighter Squadron 103, | ||||||
13 | based out of Oceana, Virginia, where he flew off the U.S.S. | ||||||
14 | Saratoga; in April of 1982, he was commissioned as a Navy | ||||||
15 | Chaplain and sent to serve on the U.S.S. Simon Lake, based out | ||||||
16 | of St. Mary's, Georgia; in 1984, he served as station chaplain | ||||||
17 | of Glenview NAS in Glenview; he was later transferred to the | ||||||
18 | United States Marine Corps to serve as Battalion Chaplain of | ||||||
19 | the 7th Engineer Battalion, First Service Support Group at Camp | ||||||
20 | Pendleton, California; in 1990, he was sent to Marine Air Group | ||||||
21 | 14 in Cherry Pt., North Carolina, where he remained until his | ||||||
22 | retirement from active service on December 1, 1995; and

23 | WHEREAS, Following his retirement from active service, Lt. |

1 | Cmdr. Paul McNabb began a Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training | ||||||
2 | Corps (NJROTC) at East Aurora High School; he began the program | ||||||
3 | by recruiting from April to May of 1996; by August of 1996, he | ||||||
4 | was teaching classes, with a total enrollment of 165 cadets; | ||||||
5 | today, the program is more successful than ever, with an | ||||||
6 | average enrollment of over 500 cadets for more than five years | ||||||
7 | in a row; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Under Lt. Cmdr. Paul McNabb's inspired | ||||||
9 | leadership, the East Aurora High School NJROTC has gained much | ||||||
10 | acclaim for its dedication and hard work; the organization was | ||||||
11 | selected as "Best New Unit" in Area Nine NJROTC in 1996; the | ||||||
12 | NJROTC has also been the recipient of the "CNET Unit" award in | ||||||
13 | 1998, the "Distinguished Unit" award from 2002 to 2008, the | ||||||
14 | "Area Best Unit" in 2003, 2005, and 2007; in addition, Lt. | ||||||
15 | Cmdr. McNabb was nominated as Kane County Educator of the Year | ||||||
16 | in 1998 and received the "Superintendent's" award from the Kane | ||||||
17 | County office; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, Lt. Cmdr. Paul McNabb serves as a model of hard | ||||||
19 | work, integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of | ||||||
20 | Illinois; therefore, be it
| ||||||
21 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
22 | NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
23 | congratulate Lieutenant Commander Paul J. McNabb on the |

1 | occasion of his retirement and wish him many happy and healthy | ||||||
2 | retirement years; and be it further
| ||||||
3 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
