HOUSE RESOLUTION

    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3
Representatives are pleased to recognize milestone events in 
4
Illinois communities; and

 
5
    WHEREAS, A war is being conducted overseas by the brave men 
6
and women of our armed services, who have courageously put the 
7
defense of the United States of America above their own 
8
personal safety and comfort; and

 
9
    WHEREAS, It is vital to the success of our troops that we 
10
show our support for their service and display our pride in 
11
their accomplishments; and

 
12
    WHEREAS, Tee it Up for the Troops is a non-profit 
13
organization established in 2005 to support the fallen and 
14
disabled members of our armed forces and their families, as 
15
well as to honor all of our veterans and honor their 
16
sacrifices; and

 
17
    WHEREAS, Tee it Up for the Troops has raised over 
18
$1,000,000, which has been donated to military family support 
19
programs across the country since 2005; in 2008, over 25 
20
various programs were helped through Tee it Up for the Troops, 
21
providing scholarships, transportation, clothing, lodging,

sports activities, and kids programs, among many other 
2
services; in addition, over 40,000 golf balls, along with 
3
clubs, netting, and mats have been sent to the troops overseas, 
4
where they have created their own driving ranges and golf 
5
holes; and
 
6
    WHEREAS, The Friday closest to September 11th has been 
7
designated by Tee it Up for the Troops, Inc. as the "National 
8
Day of Golf" to salute all those that have answered the call of 
9
duty; and

 
10
    WHEREAS, On August 31, 2009, the First Annual Tee it Up for 
11
the Troops Central Illinois Golf Classic will be held to 
12
support the Wounded Warrior Project, as well as families of 
13
Central Illinois servicemen and servicewomen that are 
14
currently serving and facing financial challenges as a result 
15
of their serving; the event will also establish 10 scholarships 
16
for children of financially challenged veterans; therefore, be 
17
it

    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
19
NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
20
designate the date of September 11, 2009 as "Tee it Up for the 
21
Troops Day" in the State of Illinois; and be it further

 
22
    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be

presented to Tee it Up for the Troops, Inc. as a symbol of our

esteem and respect.
