HOUSE RESOLUTION

    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3
Representatives are pleased to congratulate John F. Piazza on 
4
the occasion of his retirement as Mayor of the Village of 
5
Lemont; and

 
6
    WHEREAS, Mayor Piazza holds a bachelor's degree from Yale 
7
University and a master's degree from DePaul University; and

 
8
    WHEREAS, John Piazza was first elected to serve as Mayor of 
9
Lemont in April of 2001; in 2005, he was elected to a second 
10
4-year term as Mayor; and

 
11
    WHEREAS, Under John Piazza's leadership, the Village of 
12
Lemont annexed, rezoned, and improved the property along the I &
13
 M and Sanitary & Ship Canals and expanded the Heritage 
14
Quarries Recreation Area; the village has also seen improved 
15
traffic conditions, downtown revitalization, insistence on 
16
high quality residential and commercial development, and an 
17
aggressive economic development program; the new public works 
18
and police facilities were designed and constructed during 
19
Mayor Piazza's administration as well; and
 
20
    WHEREAS, During his tenure as Mayor, John Piazza has 
21
personally raised and distributed about $200,000 to local

charities, food pantries, service organizations, veterans' 
2
organizations, and youth programs in the community of Lemont 
3
through the Mayor's Drive for Charity; and

 
4
    WHEREAS, Before serving as Mayor, John Piazza was a member 
5
of the Lemont-Bromberek School District 113A Board of Education 
6
for two years; he also holds a full-time position with Country 
7
Insurance and Financial Services; and

 
8
    WHEREAS, John Piazza serves as Chairman of the 
9
Transportation Committee of the Southwest Conference of 
10
Mayors; he is also affiliated with the DuPage Mayors and 
11
Managers Conference and the Will County Governmental League; 
12
and
 
13
    WHEREAS, John Piazza serves as a model of hard work, 
14
integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of 
15
Illinois; therefore, be it

 
16
    RESOLVED, BY THE  HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
17
NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
18
congratulate John Piazza on the occasion of his retirement and 
19
wish him many happy and healthy retirement years; and be it 
20
further

    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
