| WHEREAS, The City of Dixon was established in 1828, when |
| 3 |
| Native American Joseph Ogee established a trading post in the |
| 4 |
| area now known as Dixon; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, The Rock River was a factor in the importance and |
| 6 |
| growth of Dixon, resulting in the establishment of a ferry by |
| 7 |
| John Dixon to transport wagons, animals, and people across the |
| 8 |
| river; and
|
| 9 |
| WHEREAS, The Rock River, which runs from the Horicon |
| 10 |
| Marshes in Wisconsin to the Mississippi River, has developed |
| 11 |
| into a great fishery, known for its abundance of catfish |
| 12 |
| weighing up to and over 50 pounds; and
|
| 13 |
| WHEREAS, The Rock River is known for having the best |
| 14 |
| fishing and best-tasting catfish in the Midwest; and
|
| 15 |
| WHEREAS, National outdoor sports retailer Cabela's is |
| 16 |
| sponsoring an Annual Catfish Tournament with the City of Dixon |
| 17 |
| as the center of the tournament; and
|
| 18 |
| WHEREAS, The Dixon Tourism Board will be hosting a King Kat |
| 19 |
| Tournament with $10,000 in cash prizes on June 6, 2009 and in |
| 20 |
| the first weekend of every June thereafter; therefore, be it
|
