| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 |
| Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Tyrone |
| 4 |
| Kenner of Chicago, who passed away on April 27, 2009; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Kenner had been a Chicago police officer and |
| 6 |
| community organizer when he successfully ran for alderman in |
| 7 |
| 1971; and
|
| 8 |
| WHEREAS, His efforts to rejuvenate the 3rd ward, a tough |
| 9 |
| patch of the South Side that included the Robert Taylor |
| 10 |
| public-housing high-rises, included renovations for the 47th |
| 11 |
| Street "L" platform and various anti-crime measures; and
|
| 12 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Kenner grew up in south suburban Robbins and |
| 13 |
| graduated from Eisenhower High School in Blue Island; he served |
| 14 |
| in the United States Air Force and worked as a Chicago police |
| 15 |
| officer and a boxing promoter before getting into community |
| 16 |
| work; and
|
| 17 |
| WHEREAS, Before his election as alderman, he was deputy |
| 18 |
| director of the Chicago Committee on Urban Opportunity; in |
| 19 |
| recent years he was an assistant engineer at Cook County Jail; |
| 20 |
| and
