| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 |
| Representatives are pleased to congratulate Reverend Dr. Leroy |
4 |
| R. Henry II on his retirement as pastor of the Mary Magdalene |
5 |
| Missionary Baptist Church in Chicago; and
|
6 |
| WHEREAS, Dr. L R. Henry has devoted fifty years toward the |
7 |
| spiritual growth and nurturing of God's Kingdom; in 1956 he was |
8 |
| called into the preaching ministry and was ordained on July 9, |
9 |
| 1961, at St. Matthew Baptist Church by the late Pastor Reverend |
10 |
| J. P. Gordon; and
|
11 |
| WHEREAS, In 1962 Dr. Henry organized and began his |
12 |
| Pastorate at the Mary Magdalene Missionary Baptist Church in |
13 |
| Chicago; and
|
14 |
| WHEREAS, Dr. Henry's educational background began at The |
15 |
| Chicago Baptist Institute, where he earned an Associate degree |
16 |
| in Religion in 1979; he continued to study at the Chicago |
17 |
| Baptist Institute, earning a Bachelor of Theology degree in |
18 |
| 1980; in 1989 be received three prestigious Seven-Year Training |
19 |
| diplomas from the Department of Christian Education of the |
20 |
| Baptist Sunday School and Training Union Congress of the |
21 |
| National Baptist Publishing Board; and he earned a Doctorate of |
22 |
| Divinity degree from the Gospel Outreach Theological Institute |

| of Houston, Texas, in 1996; and
|

| WHEREAS, He has been a distinguished professor at the |
3 |
| Chicago Baptist Institute for more than twenty years; first |
4 |
| Vice-President of the Illinois Missionary Baptist Convention; |
5 |
| Treasurer of the Illinois Missionary Baptist State Convention |
6 |
| for seven years; First Vice-Moderator of the Northwood River |
7 |
| Baptist District Association; a member of the Lifelink Housing |
8 |
| Corporation's Board of
Directors for more than eight years; and |
9 |
| an outstanding President of the Baptist Ministerial Alliance of |
10 |
| Chicago and Vicinity for six years; and
|
11 |
| WHEREAS, Dr. Henry is especially proud of his lovely wife |
12 |
| for fifty-four years, Dora, who has assisted him in nurturing |
13 |
| their six children in God's way; all six of their children have |
14 |
| earned college degrees; and they have nineteen grandchildren |
15 |
| and five great-grand children; therefore, be it
|

| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
17 |
| NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
18 |
| congratulate Reverend Dr. Henry on his retirement and wish him |
19 |
| the best in all his future endeavors; and be it further
|
20 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
21 |
| presented to Reverend Dr. Henry as a symbol of our respect.
