HOUSE RESOLUTION


 
2
    WHEREAS, Maine West High School students first entered the 
3
new building in 1959, the second high school to serve the 
4
citizens of Maine Township; and

 
5
    WHEREAS, Maine Township High School District 207 also 
6
includes Maine East High School and Maine South High School; 
7
Maine West is located in the city of Des Plaines and was 
8
formally dedicated on November 8, 1959; and

 
9
    WHEREAS, Maine West High School employs 175 teachers; in 
10
2002 the school received U.S. News and World Report's Award for 
11
"Outstanding High School," one of only fifty schools across the 
12
nation to receive this honor; and

 
13
    WHEREAS, The current school superintendent is Dr. Joel 
14
Morris; the principal is Dr. Audrey Haugan; and the assistant 
15
principal is Dave Berendt; and

 
16
    WHEREAS, The athletic nickname of the school is the 
17
Warriors and the school colors are columbia blue, gold, and 
18
white; and

 
19
    WHEREAS, The anniversary celebration will begin after the 
20
new school year begins in late August of 2009; therefore, be it

    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
2
NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
3
congratulate everyone who has been a part of Maine West High 
4
School and its history on this joyous occasion; and be it 
5
further

    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
7
presented to Dr. Joel Morris as a symbol of our respect and 
8
esteem.
