HOUSE RESOLUTION

    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3
Representatives are pleased to congratulate George A. McCoy on 
4
the occasion of his retirement as Park Commissioner of the 
5
Channahon Park District after 38 years of dedicated service; 
6
and

 
7
    WHEREAS, George McCoy was elected to serve as Park 
8
Commissioner of the Channahon Park District in 1971, during the 
9
original formation of the park district; upon his election, he 
10
became one of the five original members of the Channahon Park 
11
District Board; currently, he is the last remaining original 
12
Park Commissioner serving on the Board; and

 
13
    WHEREAS, George McCoy has served nearly half of his 38-year 
14
career with the Channahon Park District Board as the Board's 
15
president; and

 
16
    WHEREAS, Every initiative that the Channahon Park District 
17
Board has accomplished in its 38-year history has happened 
18
during George McCoy's tenure, including the district's 
19
designation in 1997 as the top public park  and recreation 
20
system in the nation among communities under 20,000 residents 
21
in size; he has been present for the district's phenomenal 
22
growth, from a leased park facility to a single undeveloped

park to a fully grown local public park system of over 450 
2
acres at 26 locations, including award-winning and 
3
nationally-recognized projects at Heritage Bluffs Public Golf 
4
Club and the Heritage Crossing Field House; and

 
5
    WHEREAS, George McCoy serves as a model of hard work, 
6
integrity, and dedication for the citizens of Channahon, the 
7
employees of the Channahon Park District, and the people of the 
8
State of Illinois; therefore, be it

 
9
    RESOLVED, BY THE  HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
10
NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
11
congratulate George A. McCoy on the occasion of his retirement 
12
and wish him many happy and healthy retirement years; and be it 
13
further

 
14
    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
15
presented to George McCoy as a symbol of our esteem and 
16
respect.
