| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|
| 2 |
| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 |
| Representatives thank Richard H. Hyde for his years of |
| 4 |
| dedicated service as Mayor of the City of Waukegan; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Richard Hyde is a graduate of Waukegan High |
| 6 |
| School; he attended Bradley University from 1949 to 1953; he |
| 7 |
| then attended DePaul University, where he earned his master's |
| 8 |
| degree in business administration in 1961; he also attended |
| 9 |
| Northwestern University, Northern University, and the |
| 10 |
| University of Illinois; and
|
| 11 |
| WHEREAS, Richard Hyde served his country as a member of the |
| 12 |
| United States Air Force from 1946 to 1949; he also served in |
| 13 |
| the USAF Reserve from 1955 to 1977, retiring at the rank of |
| 14 |
| Colonel; and
|
| 15 |
| WHEREAS, Richard Hyde has had a long and distinguished |
| 16 |
| career in education; he began his career as a teacher and coach |
| 17 |
| at Warren High School, serving there from 1953 to 1959; he then |
| 18 |
| served as Athletic Director, coach, and teacher at various |
| 19 |
| Waukegan public schools from 1959 until his retirement in 1994 |
| 20 |
| after 41 years of teaching and coaching; and
|
| 21 |
| WHEREAS, Richard Hyde coached a State championship |
|

| wrestling team in 1966 and State championship baseball teams in |
| 2 |
| 1971 and 1983; and |
| 3 |
| WHEREAS, In 1985, Richard Hyde was elected to serve as the |
| 4 |
| 8th Ward Alderman of the City of Waukegan, serving in that |
| 5 |
| position until 2002, when he was elected Mayor; and
|
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, Richard Hyde was a member of the Cleveland Browns |
| 7 |
| football team; in 1991, he was inducted into the Waukegan |
| 8 |
| Sports Hall of Fame and the Illinois Athletics Directors Hall |
| 9 |
| of Fame; that same year, he was named an Illinois Outstanding |
| 10 |
| Athletic Director; in 2001, he was inducted into the Bradley |
| 11 |
| University Sports Hall of Fame; and
|
| 12 |
| WHEREAS, Richard Hyde has been a member of numerous civic |
| 13 |
| and professional organizations, including the Our Lady of |
| 14 |
| Humility Church Agency's Board of Directors, the Knights of |
| 15 |
| Columbus, the National Athletics Directors Association, the |
| 16 |
| Illinois Athletic Directors Association, the American Legion, |
| 17 |
| the Waukegan Recreations Board, and the YMCA; he also served on |
| 18 |
| the Waukegan Park Board, serving as the board's Commissioner |
| 19 |
| from 1966 to 1975 and as President in 1968 and 1971; and |
| 20 |
| WHEREAS, Richard Hyde has served as a model of hard work, |
| 21 |
| integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of |
| 22 |
| Illinois; therefore, be it

| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |

| NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
| 3 |
| thank Richard H. Hyde for his years of dedicated service as |
| 4 |
| Mayor of the City of Waukegan and wish him continued success |
| 5 |
| and happiness in his future endeavors; and be it further
|
| 6 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 7 |
| presented to Richard Hyde as a symbol of our esteem and |
| 8 |
| respect.
