| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 |
| Representatives are pleased to congratulate Channahon Park |
| 4 |
| District Commissioner George A. McCoy on his retirement from |
| 5 |
| the Channahon Park District on May 27, 2009; and
|
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, George McCoy was an elected Channahon Park |
| 7 |
| District Commissioner continuously from August 1971 to May |
| 8 |
| 2009, for over 38 years of elected service; and
|
| 9 |
| WHEREAS, He was one of the five first elected commissioners |
| 10 |
| when the Park District was formed in 1971 and is the last of |
| 11 |
| the original commissioners to still serve on the Board; he |
| 12 |
| served over 17 years as Park District Board President, and was |
| 13 |
| involved in every decision and accomplishment the park district |
| 14 |
| has ever had; and
|
| 15 |
| WHEREAS, He has watched the District grow from a single |
| 16 |
| leased park location to a park system that includes over 450 |
| 17 |
| acres of public open space at 22 locations, with nationally |
| 18 |
| recognized, award winning facilities in Heritage Bluffs Public |
| 19 |
| Golf Club and Heritage Crossing Field House, and a community |
| 20 |
| center facility, aquatic center, and indoor roller skating |
| 21 |
| rink; and
|

| WHEREAS, During his time of service the District has won |
| 2 |
| the National Gold Medal Grand Award as the top park and |
| 3 |
| recreation agency in the nation among communities under 25,000 |
| 4 |
| population;
and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, The District offers over 1,200 different |
| 6 |
| recreation programs and special events annually to the |
| 7 |
| community, now numbering 17,800 residents; the District |
| 8 |
| provides policy and budget oversight to an agency that grew |
| 9 |
| from one part-time staff person and an annual operating budget |
| 10 |
| of $34,500, to a staff of 24 full-time positions and over 300 |
| 11 |
| part-time and seasonal staff positions, with an operating |
| 12 |
| budget in excess of $4,450,000; and
|
| 13 |
| WHEREAS, He and his wife, Juanita, have three children, |
| 14 |
| Michelle, Denise, and George, and eleven grandchildren; |
| 15 |
| therefore, be it
|
| 16 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 17 |
| NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
| 18 |
| congratulate George McCoy on his retirement and thank him for |
| 19 |
| his years of commitment and dedication to the Channahon Park |
| 20 |
| District; and be it further

| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 22 |
| presented to George A. McCoy as a symbol of our respect.
