HOUSE RESOLUTION

    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3
Representatives are pleased to congratulate Charleston Police 
4
Chief Mark Jenkins on his retirement; and

 
5
    WHEREAS, Chief Mark Jenkins soon will retire from the 
6
Charleston Police Department to become the new police chief of 
7
the City of Casey on June 15, 2009; and

 
8
    WHEREAS, Mark Jenkins was appointed interim Charleston 
9
chief following Paul Welch’s resignation in December of 2007; 
10
he was later appointed on a permanent basis, capping a career 
11
that began when he joined the department as a radio dispatcher 
12
in 1977 and  was hired as a police officer the following year; 
13
and

 
14
    WHEREAS, He has helped open up Charleston Police Department 
15
communications with the other city departments, Eastern 
16
Illinois University, and other law enforcement agencies in the 
17
area; he has been active in the community through his support 
18
of the Citizens Police Academy and church safety seminar as 
19
well as by being a member of local civic groups; and

    WHEREAS, Chief Jenkins enjoys spending time with his wife, 
21
Patty; their son, Adam; and their grandchildren, Logan and

Sammy; therefore, be it

    RESOLVED, BY THE  HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
3
NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
4
congratulate Chief Jenkins on his retirement from the 
5
Charleston Police Department and wish him continued success as 
6
he becomes the police chief in Casey; and be it further

 
7
    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
8
presented to Mark Jenkins as a symbol of our respect.
