| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION

| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives are pleased to congratulate Jim Bruno on the | ||||||
| 4 | occasion of his retirement from the Kankakee City Fire | ||||||
| 5 | Department; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Jim Bruno began his fire service career with the | ||||||
| 7 | Kankakee Township Fire Protection District in January of 1982 | ||||||
| 8 | following the sudden passing of his father; he served with the | ||||||
| 9 | Kankakee Township Fire Department until 1988; during his | ||||||
| 10 | tenure, he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and was the | ||||||
| 11 | first paramedic in the department; and
| ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, On December 5, 1988, Jim Bruno was sworn in as a | ||||||
| 13 | member of the Kankakee City Fire Department; he accomplished | ||||||
| 14 | many certifications during his 20 1/2 year career; and
| ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, Jim Bruno was the recipient of the Kankakee Fire | ||||||
| 16 | Department Distinguished Service Award on September 21, 1990 | ||||||
| 17 | for saving the life of a woman who was found in the living room | ||||||
| 18 | of her burning structure at Stone Street and 6th Avenue in | ||||||
| 19 | Kankakee; the woman was found during the primary search in a | ||||||
| 20 | chair 20 feet from the front door in cardiac arrest; with the | ||||||
| 21 | help of fellow firefighter Steve Born, Mr. Bruno carried the | ||||||
| 22 | woman out the door and placed her onto a waiting stretcher, | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | then proceeded to perform ALS treatment to the hospital; the | ||||||
| 2 | woman made a complete recovery; and
| ||||||
| 3 | WHEREAS, Jim Bruno is a very strong proponent for union | ||||||
| 4 | labor; he joined the Kankakee Fire Fighters Union in January of | ||||||
| 5 | 1989; he has served as a chaplain for 2 years and, most | ||||||
| 6 | recently, as the Executive Board Secretary for the past 4 | ||||||
| 7 | years; he has attended numerous courses on how to succeed in | ||||||
| 8 | grievance and arbitration hearings and numerous health and | ||||||
| 9 | safety courses held by the IAFF; he attended classes on how to | ||||||
| 10 | negotiate labor contracts through the University of Illinois; | ||||||
| 11 | he served as the Firefighters Union Delegate for the Kankakee | ||||||
| 12 | Federation of Labor from 1996 until 2005; he has also been a | ||||||
| 13 | member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers | ||||||
| 14 | since 1992 and has been a strong proponent of the IBEW labor | ||||||
| 15 | movement; and
| ||||||
| 16 | WHEREAS, Jim Bruno is a member of the Associated Fire | ||||||
| 17 | Fighters of Illinois Honor Guard and is the Fourth District | ||||||
| 18 | First Shirt; and
| ||||||
| 19 | WHEREAS, Jim Bruno's wife, Stacey Ann, is a Captain with | ||||||
| 20 | the United States Army Reserve; he has 3 children, Austyn | ||||||
| 21 | James, Andrew Joseph, and Abbie Jolin; and | ||||||
| 22 | WHEREAS, During his retirement, Jim Bruno will continue to | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | support the labor movement and will remain a member of the | ||||||
| 2 | Kankakee Fire Fighters Union, the Honor Guard, and the IBEW; | ||||||
| 3 | therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 4 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 5 | NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 6 | congratulate Jim Bruno on the occasion of his retirement and | ||||||
| 7 | wish him many happy and healthy retirement years; and be it | ||||||
| 8 | further

| 9 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 10 | presented to Jim Bruno as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
