HOUSE RESOLUTION


 
2
    WHEREAS, The government urges residents to seek shelter in 
3
a safe place during severe weather and natural disasters, 
4
including recent storms and flooding; and

 
5
    WHEREAS, Electricians of the International Brotherhood of 
6
Electric Workers (IBEW) brave these hazardous conditions, 
7
working to restore power and protect the public from the 
8
threats posed by severe weather, such as severed power lines; 
9
and

 
10
    WHEREAS, Electrical power is one of the most indispensable 
11
services Illinoisans rely on in their day-to-day life and is 
12
particularly vital to the success of disaster recovery efforts; 
13
and

 
14
    WHEREAS, IBEW electricians frequently work in perilous 
15
conditions to restore power and resolve potentially 
16
life-threatening situations, providing emergency workers with 
17
safer conditions for rescue attempts and speeding up disaster 
18
recovery efforts; and

 
19
    WHEREAS, IBEW electricians deserve respect and 
20
appreciation for the immense risks they take while serving 
21
Illinois communities during severe weather and times of crisis;

    WHEREAS, Southern Illinois was ravaged by a series of 
3
severe storms in May of 2009; calamity was avoided in part due 
4
to the diligent and, in some instances, heroic conduct of the 
5
members of IBEW Locals 9, 51, 196, 309, 649, and 702; their 
6
diligence and hard work have ensured the safety and comfort of 
7
thousands of southern Illinoisans; therefore, be it

 
8
    RESOLVED, BY THE  HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
9
NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
10
honor the members of International Brotherhood of Electrical 
11
Workers Locals 9, 51, 196, 309, 649, and 702 for their heroic 
12
efforts in restoring power and order to the citizens of 
13
Illinois in dangerous conditions; and be it further

 
14
    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
15
presented to a representative of the International Brotherhood 
16
of Electrical Workers as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
