HOUSE RESOLUTION

    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3
Representatives and State Representative Monique D. Davis are 
4
proud of our native son, Derrick Rose, and his rise to 
5
basketball dominance with the Chicago Bulls; and

 
6
    WHEREAS, Derrick Rose was born on October 4, 1988 in 
7
Chicago; he was the first player taken in the June 2008 
8
National Basketball Association (NBA) draft, selected by the 
9
Chicago Bulls; he has completed one season in the NBA, and  was 
10
named NBA Rookie of the Year; and

 
11
    WHEREAS, He played basketball while attending Simeon High 
12
School and was an All-State guard his junior and senior years, 
13
leading his team to State championships both years; he went on 
14
to attend and play college basketball at the University of 
15
Memphis; and

 
16
    WHEREAS, Derrick Rose was the nation's top point guard in 
17
the 2006-2007 college rankings; he was named to the USA Today 
18
2007 All-USA Team (first team) and the 2007 Parade Magazine 
19
All-America Team; he was also selected to the 2007 SLAM 
20
magazine and MaxPreps.com All-America first teams; and

    WHEREAS, He was a 2007 EA Sports All-America first team

pick and a 2006 EA Sports All-America second team selection; he 
2
was named 2007 Illinois Mr. Basketball by the Chicago Tribune; 
3
and he played in the Jordan Brand and McDonald's All-America 
4
games; and

    WHEREAS, He is known to be quiet, polite, and friendly off 
6
the court, but is tough, competitive, and confident when he is 
7
playing against another team; therefore, be it

    RESOLVED, BY THE  HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
9
NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
10
thank Derrick Rose for being a part of Illinois sports history 
11
and look forward to watching his career with the Chicago Bulls; 
12
and be it further

    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
14
presented to Derrick Rose as a symbol of our respect and 
15
esteem.
