| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |

| Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of
Vergil H. |
| 4 |
| Fletcher of Collinsville, who passed away on June 30, 2009; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Vergil Fletcher was born on July 1, 1915; he |
| 6 |
| served his country with pride and distinction as a member of |
| 7 |
| the United States Army during World War II; and
|
| 8 |
| WHEREAS, Vergil Fletcher retired after 32 years as head |
| 9 |
| basketball coach of Collinsville High School, where he led his |
| 10 |
| teams to two State titles in 1961 and 1965; he was named |
| 11 |
| Illinois National High School Coach of the Year in 1972 and was |
| 12 |
| picked as one of the greatest high school coaches of the |
| 13 |
| century; and
|
| 14 |
| WHEREAS, Vergil Fletcher was a member of the American |
| 15 |
| Legion Post 365 in Collinsville, the Collinsville Noontime |
| 16 |
| Lions Club, the Knights of Columbus, and Ss. Peter & Paul |
| 17 |
| Catholic Church in Collinsville; and
|
| 18 |
| WHEREAS, Vergil Fletcher was preceded in death by his |
| 19 |
| parents, John and Etta Fletcher; his brother, Cecil; and his |
| 20 |
| sisters, Helen Baker, Audra Brown, and Rose Mitchell; and
