HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Edward P.
4 Morrissey of Chicago, who passed away on August 2, 2009; and
 
5     WHEREAS, He was a 1961 graduate of Loyola Academy in
6 Wilmette, where he was co-captain of the football team; he
7 joined the Jesuit Society of Jesus from 1961 to 1968; during
8 his time in the Jesuit seminary at Milford, Ohio, he obtained a
9 bachelor degree in Classics (Latin and Greek); he taught
10 English and Sociology at St. Xavier High School and coached
11 soccer during this time; and
 
12     WHEREAS, He graduated from Boston College in 1967 with a
13 degree in Philosophy; he received his Juris Doctor in 1974 from
14 Creighton University Law School in Omaha, Nebraska; he
15 practiced law in Elmhurst and was a Cook County Assistant
16 State's Attorney before marrying Elsie (Campbell) in 1984; he
17 practiced family law in Sandwich for 22 years; and
 
18     WHEREAS, In 1994, he ran for Circuit Court Judge for the
19 16th Judicial Circuit and for De Kalb County State's Attorney
20 in 1996; in 2006, he made a career change to teach Latin at
21 Aurora Central Catholic High School; and

1     WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents, Dennis J.
2 and Margaret (Scott) Morrissey; and his brother, John
3 (Georgann) Morrissey; and
 
4     WHEREAS, Edward Morrissey is survived by his beloved wife
5 of 25 years, Elsie (Campbell); his children, Carrie (John)
6 Libetti, Clete Campbell, Clayton Campbell, Paul, Dorothy, and
7 Laura Morrissey; his wife's nephew, Paul Sipes; his four
8 siblings, Mary (Robert) Moroney, Joseph (Joan) Morrissey,
9 Dennis (Helen) Morrissey, and Richard (Althea) Morrissey;
10 therefore, be it
 
11     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
12 NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
13 mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Edward
14 Morrissey; and be it further
 
15     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16 presented to the family of Edward Morrissey as a symbol of our
17 sincere sympathy.
