| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 |
| Representatives have learned with very mixed emotions of the |
4 |
| plans of Illinois broadcasting legend Rich Bradley to retire as |
5 |
| news director of WUIS-FM, its predecessors, and other outlets |
6 |
| after nearly 50 years; and
|
7 |
| WHEREAS, Rich Bradley earned the distinction of being the |
8 |
| first live voice heard on WSSR-FM when he delivered the |
9 |
| station's inaugural newscast on January 3, 1975; and
|
10 |
| WHEREAS, Rich Bradley was a graduate of Ogden Community |
11 |
| High School; he then attended the University of Illinois and |
12 |
| acquired his broadcasting skills and a degree in |
13 |
| radio-television from Southern Illinois University in |
14 |
| Carbondale; and
|
15 |
| WHEREAS, During his lengthy career, Rich Bradley watched |
16 |
| broadcasting and news gathering technology "progress" from the |
17 |
| clack of the teletype machine to the Internet and the digital |
18 |
| age; and
|
19 |
| WHEREAS, Rich Bradley brought listeners across Illinois |
20 |
| news of government and politics through the creation of the |
21 |
| Illinois Public Radio and initiated and hosted one of radio's |
|

| longest running public affairs programs, "State Week in |
2 |
| Review"; and |
3 |
| WHEREAS, Rich Bradley used his clear, concise style to |
4 |
| broadcast interviews with governors, presidential appearances, |
5 |
| Illinois Supreme Court hearings, a gubernatorial impeachment, |
6 |
| and election nights too numerous to count; and
|
7 |
| WHEREAS, While he has earned many broadcasting awards, a |
8 |
| true mark of Rich Bradley's distinctive career occurred in |
9 |
| 2005, when he was named the recipient of the Leo C. Lee Award |
10 |
| by the national Public Radio News Directors; therefore, be it
|
11 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
12 |
| NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
13 |
| join other State leaders, family members, and friends in |
14 |
| expressing sincere gratitude and congratulations to Rich |
15 |
| Bradley for his contributions to broadcasting, for informing |
16 |
| the citizens of Illinois, and for making Illinois a better |
17 |
| place through his work; and be it further
|
18 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
19 |
| presented to Rich Bradley as a symbol of our esteem and |
20 |
| respect.
