HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of George A.
4 Frazier of Shelbyville, who passed away on August 18, 2009; and
 
5     WHEREAS, George Frazier was born on September 21, 1933 in
6 Shelbyville; he was the son of Rennie L. and Mary I. Fleming
7 Frazier; he married Sue Lawder Frazier on July 27, 1973; and
 
8     WHEREAS, George Frazier graduated from Shelbyville High
9 School in 1951; he then earned his bachelor's degree in
10 journalism from the University of Missouri in 1955; and
 
11     WHEREAS, George Frazier worked at the Shelbyville Daily
12 Union for his entire adult life until his retirement in 1999;
13 he and his sister edited and published the daily newspaper,
14 which they inherited from their father; during his tenure as
15 editor and publisher, George won numerous State and national
16 newspaper awards for his coverage of Shelby County; and
 
17     WHEREAS, After his retirement from the Shelbyville Daily
18 Union, George Frazier served on the Shelby County Board from
19 December 4, 2000 until his death; he also served as the county
20 board chairman from July 10, 2002 until December 1, 2008; and

1     WHEREAS, George Frazier was a member of the First
2 Presbyterian Church in Shelbyville, where he served as an
3 elder; he was a member of the Shelbyville Rotary Club, where he
4 served as president and received the Paul Harris Award; he also
5 was a member of Jackson Lodge #53 Ancient Free and Accepted
6 Masons in Shelbyville, the Scottish Rite, and the Ansar Shrine
7 in Springfield; and
 
8     WHEREAS, George Frazier enjoyed flying planes, shooting
9 high-powered and accurate rifles, hunting, fishing, playing
10 the bagpipe, and playing with his grandchildren; and
 
11     WHEREAS, George Frazier was preceded in death by his
12 sister, Frances; his brother, Dwight; and his parents; and
 
13     WHEREAS, George Frazier is survived by his wife, Sue; his
14 children, Mike Frazier and Beth Fahey; his son-in-law, Kevin;
15 and his grandchildren, Ashley and Max Fahey; therefore, be it
 
16     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
17 NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
18 mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of George
19 A. Frazier; and be it further
 
20     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21 presented to the family of George Frazier as an expression of
