| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 |
| Representatives are pleased to commend Carl Painter of Lake |
4 |
| Villa on the occasion of the courage and bravery he exhibited |
5 |
| when he saved the life of an elderly woman on May 21, 2009; and
|
6 |
| WHEREAS, Carl Painter has been an employee of the Lake |
7 |
| County Housing Authority for 18 years; he works as a |
8 |
| maintenance supervisor at the Beach Haven Towers senior living |
9 |
| center in Round Lake Beach; and
|
10 |
| WHEREAS, On May 21, 2009, Carl Painter responded to a fire |
11 |
| alarm at Beach Haven Towers; upon arrival, he found an elderly |
12 |
| resident's second-story apartment on fire and the woman lying |
13 |
| on the floor after slipping and falling; and |
14 |
| WHEREAS, At great peril to himself, Carl Painter rescued |
15 |
| the elderly woman from the burning apartment, then returned to |
16 |
| put out the fire with a fire extinguisher; despite his best |
17 |
| efforts, he was unable to extinguish the fire completely before |
18 |
| being overcome by smoke; upon finding Mr. Painter, arriving |
19 |
| firefighters assisted him down the steps; he was then taken to |
20 |
| Condell Hospital's intensive care unit, where he was put on a |
21 |
| ventilator; and
|

| WHEREAS, As a result of smoke inhalation, carbon monoxide |
2 |
| poisoning, and cyanide poisoning, Carl Painter eventually went |
3 |
| into a coma for 3 days; doctors were unsure if Mr. Painter |
4 |
| would survive from his extensive injuries; fortunately, with |
5 |
| his family at his side, Mr. Painter regained consciousness and |
6 |
| has since made a full recovery; and
|
7 |
| WHEREAS, Carl Painter has been honored for his heroism by |
8 |
| the Village of Round Lake Beach and the residents of Beach |
9 |
| Haven Towers with plaques; in addition, the Lake County Housing |
10 |
| Authority gave Mr. Painter a certificate and named him |
11 |
| "employee of the month"; and
|
12 |
| WHEREAS, The members of the body, Carl Painter's family and |
13 |
| friends, the residents of Beach Haven Towers, and Mr. Painter's |
14 |
| community are all proud of the exceptional heroism Mr. Painter |
15 |
| exhibited in saving another person's life at great risk of |
16 |
| losing his own; therefore, be it
|

| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
18 |
| NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
19 |
| commend Carl Painter on the occasion of his courageous act and |
20 |
| wish him great success and happiness in the future; and be it |
21 |
| further
