HOUSE RESOLUTION

    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3
Representatives are pleased to congratulate the members of the 
4
Monarch Award Foundation of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority 
5
Inc.'s Xi Nu Omega Chapter on the occasion of hosting its 26th 
6
Annual Monarch Awards Gala on November 14, 2009; and

 
7
    WHEREAS, The Monarch Awards Foundation was established in 
8
1988 as a non-profit programming and fundraising organization; 
9
the foundation annually implements community-based programs 
10
and fundraisers, awarding more than $600,000 in scholarships 
11
and non-profit assistance since its inception; and

 
12
    WHEREAS, The Monarch Awards Foundation seeks to provide 
13
programs of service to the community, alone and in partnership 
14
with other organizations; the foundation also seeks to provide 
15
scholarships to assist students in academic endeavors, to 
16
provide assistance to community-based not-for-profits, to 
17
provide referrals, information, and assistance to families, 
18
and to acknowledge and foster cultural awareness and diversity; 
19
and

 
20
    WHEREAS, The Monarch Awards Foundation's major fundraiser 
21
is the annual Monarch Awards Gala, which has been successfully 
22
executed for the past 25 years; all profits from the Gala are

used to provide scholarships and donations to charitable 
2
organizations; and

    WHEREAS, The Monarch Awards Foundation and its Monarch 
4
Awards Gala serves as models of hard work, integrity, and 
5
dedication for the people of the State of Illinois; therefore, 
6
be it

    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
8
NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
9
congratulate the members of the Monarch Award Foundation of the 
10
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc.'s Xi Nu Omega Chapter on the 
11
occasion of hosting its 26th Annual Monarch Awards Gala and 
12
wish them continued success and happiness in the future; and be 
13
it further

    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
15
presented to the members of Monarch Award Foundation as a 
16
symbol of our esteem and respect.
