HOUSE RESOLUTION

    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3
Representatives are pleased to congratulate the members of the 
4
University of Southern California Midwest Alumni Club on the 
5
occasion of the club's 50th anniversary; and
  
 
6
    WHEREAS, The University of Southern California (USC) 
7
Midwest Alumni Club (MAC) was established in Chicago in 1959; 
8
the club's goal is to promote life-long Trojan friendships, 
9
provide scholarships to local area students, assist in student 
10
recruitment, and play host to the biennial USC-Notre Dame 
11
Weekender alumni activities; and
  
 
12
    WHEREAS, Held in commemoration of the USC-Notre Dame 
13
rivalry, which was begun in 1926, the USC-Notre Dame Weekender, 
14
which is hosted by the USC Midwest Alumni Club, has grown over 
15
the years and attracts thousands of alumni, family, and friends 
16
of the University of Southern California to Chicago and its 
17
suburbs to enjoy the longest intersectional NCAA rivalry in 
18
college football; the date of October 17, 2009 will mark the 
19
club's 81st USC-Notre Dame Weekender meeting; and
  
 
20
    WHEREAS, There are currently close to 5,000 USC alumni in 
21
the Chicago area, which includes the City of Chicago and its 
22
surrounding suburbs, southern Wisconsin, and northern Indiana;

    WHEREAS, The USC Midwest Alumni Club annually hosts a 
3
variety of activities, including monthly business after hours 
4
networking events, academic seminars with notable alumni and 
5
professors of the university, and co-hosting Pacific 10 
6
Conference social events with other PAC-10 universities; and
  
 
7
    WHEREAS, The USC Midwest Alumni Club has provided hundreds 
8
of local students with hundreds of thousands of dollars in 
9
scholarships over the years through the club's Kenneth R. 
10
Barton II Memorial Scholarship; therefore, be it
  
 
11
    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
12
NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
13
congratulate the members of the University of Southern 
14
California Midwest Alumni Club on the occasion of the club's 
15
50th anniversary; and be it further
  
 
16
    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
17
presented USC Midwest Alumni Club President Suzanne Reichart, 
18
Vice President Mark Decker, Treasurer Emil Ulstrup, and USC 
19
General Alumni Association President Robert Padgett as symbol 
20
of our respect and esteem.
