HOUSE RESOLUTION

    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3
Representatives are pleased to congratulate the people of the 
4
Village of Addison on the 125th anniversary of Village 
5
incorporation; and

 
6
    WHEREAS, The area of Addison was settled in 1833 by 
7
Hezekiah Dunklee and Mason Smith, establishing the region known 
8
as Dunklee's Grove; the Village of Addison was formally 
9
incorporated as a municipality on October 6, 1884 in the 
10
Circuit Court of DuPage County and Henry Bushels was elected 
11
the first Village President the same day; and

 
12
    WHEREAS, The first land uses in the area included the Zion 
13
Evangelical Lutheran Church (the mother church of present-day 
14
St. Paul Lutheran Church, the oldest church in Addison), a 
15
public school, the teacher's seminary (today, Concordia 
16
University in River Forest), the German orphan home known as 
17
Kinderheim (the site of the present-day Village Hall), and many 
18
early farms; and

 
19
    WHEREAS, In 2000 a state-of-the-art Village Hall was built 
20
on the site of the former Kinderheim at 1 Friendship Plaza; 
21
other buildings include the Police Department, the Public 
22
Library, and the offices of DuPage High School District 88; and

    WHEREAS, Addison is home to the fourth largest industrial 
2
park in the State of Illinois and the largest in DuPage County; 
3
and

 
4
    WHEREAS, Addison is home to DeVry University, the 
5
Technology Center of DuPage, a College of DuPage regional 
6
center, and the Cambridge College of Nursing; therefore, be it

 
7
    RESOLVED, BY THE  HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
8
NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
9
congratulate the people of the Village of Addison on the 125th 
10
anniversary of Village incorporation and wish them continued 
11
success and happiness; and be it further

 
12
    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
13
presented to Addison Mayor Larry Hartwig as a symbol of our 
14
respect and esteem.
