| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 |
| Representatives are pleased to congratulate the people of |
| 4 |
| Bensenville on the 125th anniversary of the Village; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, The first permanent settlers came to the |
| 6 |
| Bensenville area in 1833; the region was called Tioga, which |
| 7 |
| means "The Gate" and was originally the Potawatomi hunting |
| 8 |
| preserve in the Bensenville region; and
|
| 9 |
| WHEREAS, Between 1860 and 1880 agriculture was changing |
| 10 |
| from diversified subsistence farming to specialized cash |
| 11 |
| crops, then to commercial dairy farming; and
|
| 12 |
| WHEREAS, In 1946 the Douglas-Old Orchard location was |
| 13 |
| converted into O'Hare Field; today Bensenville is next to |
| 14 |
| O'Hare, with major expressways and the Milwaukee Railroad also |
| 15 |
| part of the Village borders; and
|
| 16 |
| WHEREAS, The population of Bensenville doubled between |
| 17 |
| 1940 and 1950 and between 1950 and 1960 it nearly tripled; and
|
| 18 |
| WHEREAS, Incorporated in 1884, Bensenville is known for its |
| 19 |
| high quality of life; today it is home to nearly 21,000 |
| 20 |
| residents near the busiest airport in the world; therefore, be |
