| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 |
| Representatives are pleased to congratulate the congregation |
| 4 |
| of the Forreston Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church on the |
| 5 |
| occasion of the church's 150th anniversary in October of 2009; |
| 6 |
| and
|
| 7 |
| WHEREAS, The rich history of the Forreston Faith |
| 8 |
| Evangelical Lutheran Church began in October of 1859, when the |
| 9 |
| first congregation began meeting in a one-room school house |
| 10 |
| located behind the church’s present location; in July of 1864, |
| 11 |
| a church was built and dedicated at the cost of $4,191; the |
| 12 |
| church had 14 original charter members; and
|
| 13 |
| WHEREAS, The Forreston Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church's |
| 14 |
| building, located at 402 2nd Avenue in Forreston, has housed |
| 15 |
| the church's congregation since its construction over 140 years |
| 16 |
| ago; the church's original 1864 bell continues to be rung each |
| 17 |
| Sunday and the original wooden altar stands at the front of the |
| 18 |
| sanctuary; and
|
| 19 |
| WHEREAS, In 1909, additions were made to the Forreston |
| 20 |
| Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church, with the church's small |
| 21 |
| entryway removed and a larger indoor entryway and balcony |
| 22 |
| added; in 1909, the building's clear glass panes were removed |

| and leaded stained-glass windows were added; in the 1930s, a |
| 2 |
| basement was dug out by hand for use as a fellowship and Sunday |
| 3 |
| school room area; in 2005, a large addition, which includes an |
| 4 |
| office, coffee fellowship area, elevator, and rest rooms |
| 5 |
| accessible for people with disabilities, was built and |
| 6 |
| dedicated and the church’s steeple was replaced; and
|
| 7 |
| WHEREAS, The congregation of the Forreston Faith |
| 8 |
| Evangelical Lutheran Church will celebrate the church's 150th |
| 9 |
| anniversary with a special worship service and dinner on |
| 10 |
| October 18, 2009; and
|
| 11 |
| WHEREAS, The Forreston Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church |
| 12 |
| and its congregation serve as shining examples of faith, |
| 13 |
| integrity, and compassion for the people of the State of |
| 14 |
| Illinois; therefore, be it
|
| 15 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 16 |
| NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
| 17 |
| congratulate the congregation of the Forreston Faith |
| 18 |
| Evangelical Lutheran Church on the occasion of the church's |
| 19 |
| 150th anniversary and wish them continued success and happiness |
| 20 |
| in the future; and be it further
|

| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 22 |
| presented to the congregation of the Forreston Faith |
