HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, George Poulos retired from the Chicago Park District in 1998 after 33 years of dedicated service to the City of Chicago, including 18 years as the supervisor of Welles Park; and

WHEREAS, On November 7, 2009, community members and friends will join together in declaring the 2300 block of West Sunnyside in Chicago, adjacent to Welles Park, as "Honorary George Poulos Way"; and

WHEREAS, George Poulos began his career with the Chicago Park District in 1969 as an hourly instructor; he was then promoted to supervisor at Clarendon Park; and

WHEREAS, George Poulos became of the supervisor of Welles Park in 1973 and continued to serve in that position until 1990; and

WHEREAS, Under George Poulos' leadership, Welles Park thrived by developing a little league program, a football program, a basketball program, and many other athletic programs; and

WHEREAS, Many young Chicagoans benefited greatly from George Poulos' tireless leadership; and

WHEREAS, Many Chicago Park District staff, whose career paths took them through Welles Park, were fortunate to have George Poulos as a mentor and a leader; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate and thank George Poulos for the many years of dedicated service he has given to his community and for the unveiling of the "Honorary George Poulos Way" street sign on the 2300 block of West Sunnyside in Chicago; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be given to George Poulos and his family as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
