| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Virginia | ||||||
4 | Campbell of Oswego, who passed away on November 1, 2009, at the | ||||||
5 | age of 101; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, She was born July 3, 1908 in La Moille, the | ||||||
7 | daughter of the late Richard D. and Laura M. (nee Aldrich) | ||||||
8 | Crossman; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Mrs. Campbell was an elementary school teacher | ||||||
10 | starting in a one room school house and taught in Oswego for 6 | ||||||
11 | years, at the Bristol grade school for two years, and the next | ||||||
12 | 21 years in Sandwich grade schools before her retirement; | ||||||
13 | though she retired she never lost the joy in teaching, | ||||||
14 | especially to little children; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, She was very active within the community as a | ||||||
16 | member of the Lyon Historical Association, the Little White | ||||||
17 | School Association, the Oswego Presbyterian Church since 1949, | ||||||
18 | serving continuously on the Rebecca Circle and as a deacon for | ||||||
19 | the church, the Kendall County Retired Teachers, the Oswego | ||||||
20 | Woman's Civic Club, serving as a picture lady for 19 years, the | ||||||
21 | Friendly Neighbors, where she served as the program chairman | ||||||
22 | since 1973, and she served as an advisor on the Oswego Senior |

1 | Commission; and | ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, During her spare time she traveled extensively to | ||||||
3 | such places as Alaska, South Africa, the British Isles, China, | ||||||
4 | Europe, the Holy Land, Switzerland, Peru, and South America; | ||||||
5 | wherever she went she was ready to sit at the piano and play | ||||||
6 | for the entertainment of all; on her 100th birthday she had the | ||||||
7 | surprise opportunity to play a steam calliope; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her husband Francis | ||||||
9 | R. "Pete" Campbell; her sister, Marion "Bob" Conard; and her | ||||||
10 | brother, Richard Crossman; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Virginia Campbell is survived by her two | ||||||
12 | daughters, Connie Campbell-Browne and Lucia (David) Oswald; | ||||||
13 | her four grandchildren, Bryan Browne, Laura (Douglas) Short, | ||||||
14 | Rebecca (Matt) McFarland, and Jill Oswald; her three | ||||||
15 | great-grandchildren, Pheobe McFarland, Van McFarland, and | ||||||
16 | Campbell Short; and also by several nieces and nephews; | ||||||
17 | therefore, be it

18 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
19 | NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
20 | mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of | ||||||
21 | Virginia Campbell; and be it further

2 | presented to the family of Virginia Campbell as a symbol of our | ||||||
3 | sincere sympathy.
